At the age of 38, Dora Carrington (1893-1932) committed suicide,
unable to contemplate living without her companion, Lytton
Strachey, who had died a few weeks before. The association with
Lytton and his Bloomsbury friends, combined with her own modesty
have tended to overshadow Carrington's contribution to modern
British painting. This book aims to redress the balance by looking
at the immense range of her work: portraits, landscapes, glass
paintings, letter illustrations and decorative work.
The very year that we began to plan our Golden Wedding celebrations
we were devastated by the news that Gerald had been diagnosed with
Prostrate cancer, Alzheimer Disease and Macular Degeneration which
eventually lead to his blindness. We had both retired and planned
to walk the South Coast Path. We looked forward to exploring the
West Country, enjoying Devonshire Cream teas, and the sea view from
our retirement flat - but the evening before we moved into our
apartment an alarming amount of blood appeared in the hotel toilet!
Surgery was successful thanks to Seamus, a skilful surgeon with a
great sense of humour. Thanks to him there was no recurrence;
however Alzheimers Disease and increasing blindness began to take
over our lives. This was compounded by a lack of understanding on
the part of friends, relatives and even some administrative staff
who had little experience and training to deal with a developing
and distressing situation.
It has been twenty years since Justine Fraser last saw Nicky
Bennet, twenty years since he abruptly took off for Hollywood.
Justine cannot forget his offbeat charisma, his sly half-smile, or
the time he surprised her by flying across the Atlantic to propose
to her on a beach. But she also cannot forget the way he
disappeared without a word of explanation.
Now reports have surfaced that Nicky has vanished again, this
time from the set of his next film, leaving behind a mysteriously
cryptic note, which Justine is sure is a message to her. Against
the advice of her friends, she sets off on a journey to America, to
the past, and to Nicky, in search of the real reasons behind his
disappearance. But what she will ultimately discover is the
shocking and disturbing truth about her relationship with Nicky
Bennet . . . which is not at all how she remembers it.

Criminological Research for Beginners is a comprehensive and
engaging guide to research methods in Criminology. Written
specifically for undergraduate students and novice researchers,
this book has been designed as a practical guide to planning,
conducting, and reporting research in the subject. By first
inviting readers to consider the importance of criminological
research, the book places related methodology firmly in the context
of students' broader study of Criminology, before moving on to
provide a detailed guide to the practical processes of research. It
is common for Criminology undergraduates to feel intimidated at the
prospect of conducting their own research, and these students
typically struggle to see the relevance of research methods to
their own studies. This book speaks directly to the needs of such
students, and includes contemporary examples and case studies that
bring a topic that is often thought of as dry to life, providing a
thorough and accessible practical guide that students can return to
at each stage of their research, all the way through to their
dissertation. This book covers: an examination of the theoretical,
political, and ethical debates in criminological research; a
complete guide to planning criminological research, assisting
student researchers in identifying their research questions,
choosing their research methods, and critiquing the available
literature; guidance on the practicalities and processes of
collecting data, a discussion of the process of analysing data and
writing up research, Including an extensive glossary and an
integrated companion website with extra examples, exercises, and
videos to further develop students' understanding, this book is
essential reading for any undergraduate on a Criminological
Research Methods course, or for anyone in need of practical
guidance on any or every of the various stages involved in
conducting thorough and effective criminological research.
