The engagement was orchestrated on the previous successes of the
cavalry of Frederick the Great. It was staged so that the German
Fourth Cavalry Division, which was magnificently equipped and
trained, would charge into glory with sabers rattling. Hundreds of
horses would thunder into combat. Instead, 24 German officers, 468
men and 843 horses were lost during no less than the eight separate
charges that were conducted that day. The entire right wing of the
imperial German Army included only nine cavalry brigades in the
well-known Schlieffen Plan, and in one battle on 12 August 1914;
two of those brigades were seriously impacted. The battle has not
been explored in the English language because it took place before
the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) landed in the channel ports
and well before any American involvement. British historians have
generally focused on Germany's efforts to enter Belgium through the
forts at Liege, which are east of Halen. But the Battle of the
Silver Helmets impacted century-old cavalry tradition. An
understanding of the battle explains why large-scale cavalry
charges would not be attempted on the Western front again.
To the outside world, Paige Allen had the perfect life. Everything
seemed flawless. She was beautiful and had a handsome, successful
husband who everyone believed adored her. She had the perfect home,
and everything she possessed was envied by others. She had two
beautiful, smart, athletic, popular daughters who always captured
everyone's attention. To the outside world, she seemed like the
perfect wife, the perfect mother. She kept the flaws well hidden.
She was very protective of the facade she had created, and she was
determined to keep it that way. Roda Allen lived inside those
walls, the hidden flaw within Paige's world. Roda was the imperfect
daughter, born in between two perfect sisters. Her journey reveals
not only the dysfunction of a seemingly perfect family but the
heartbreak of a mother's rejection. Coming full circle when she's
an adult, Roda Allen-Emerson must decide who she truly believes
herself to be: the awkward, insecure, unworthy girl her mother
believed her to be, or the accomplished, successful woman she has
become.
This is Richan's story. She suffered her first stroke at the age of
five. She has had two more, but has survived miraculously
This is a reprint of two military effects catalogs from Imperial
Germany. Historians and collectors will be amazed at what was
offered for private purchase. From medals to swords to horse
furniture to guns and spiked helmets, page after page has amazing
detail. The width of Mller and the detailed depth of Neumann make
these absolutely invaluable. Much of what is reprinted here has
never been offered before. Discoveries in the Neumann catalog have
revolutionized some thoughts about Imperial German collecting. This
is a wonderful trip to the time of Kaiser Wilhelm II before WWI,
and a must have resource.
