This book presents the outcomes of the trans- and interdisciplinary research project NEMo (Nachhaltige Erfullung von Mobilitatsbedurfnissen im landlichen Raum - Sustainable Fulfilment of Mobility Needs in Rural Areas). Due to demographic change, it is becoming increasingly difficult for rural districts and communities to maintain a basic set of public transport services such as bus and train transit without encountering issues regarding necessary social participation, sensible regional value creation and, last but not least, achievable environmental protection goals. At the same time, the demand for mobility in rural areas will continue to rise in the future, e.g. due to the concentration of medical care facilities and shopping centres close to cities. Focusing on the development of sustainable and innovative mobility services and business models, this book explains how new mobility offers can be created in which citizens themselves become mobility providers. To do so, it combines the findings of the individual research groups with external contributions from science and practice.

This open access book provides selected teaching approaches, supporting methods, concrete examples of curricula as well as extracurricular teaching formats, which are predominantly tailored to both African and German requirements. These approaches were developed by the YEEES Training and Research Centers, an international interdisciplinary network of university teachers and researchers from Germany and southern Africa, and combine the fields of management, entrepreneurship, information and communication technologies (ICT), and sustainability. Die Frage nach den Pioniervorteilen im Internet wurde bislang nur unzureichend erforscht. Jantje Halberstadt untersucht diese Frage empirisch und zeigt auf, dass First-Mover-Vorteile in nationalen Markten existieren, was im Wesentlichen auf dem Argument beruht, dass nationale First Mover die Vorteile des Ersten im nationalen Markt mit den Vorteilen des Folgers aus globaler Sicht kombinieren koennen. Die First-Mover-Vorteile sind ausgepragter, je intensiver Netzwerkeffekte zum Tragen kommen. Einhergehend mit der First-Mover-Hypothese wird zudem haufig von Winner-take-all-Markten ausgegangen, in denen sich langfristig ein einzelner Anbieter durchsetzt. Die Studie zeigt jedoch, dass nicht generell von nachhaltigen Monopolgewinnen ausgegangen werden kann - insbesondere je schwacher Netzwerkeffekte wirken.
