Owen Wilson, Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler star in this comedy
drama written, directed and co-produced by Matthew Weiner, creator
of 'Mad Men'. Immature Ben Baker (Galifianakis) has no purpose in
life. When his father dies he and his best friend, weatherman Steve
Dallas (Wilson), journey to his family home. At the will reading
Ben discovers he has been left his father's entire estate, much to
his successful sister Terry (Poehler)'s chagrin. This newfound
wealth and sense of responsibility give meaning to Ben's existence.
Meanwhile, those around him search for purpose in their own lives.
From the 'nothing works' maxim of the 1970s to evidence-based
interventions to challenge recidivism and promote pro-social
behavior, psychological therapy has played an important role in
rehabilitation and risk reduction within forensic settings in
recent years. And yet the typical group therapy model isn't always
the appropriate path to take. In this important new book, the aims
and effectiveness of individual therapies within forensic settings,
both old and new, are assessed and discussed. Including
contributions from authors based in the UK, North America, Europe,
Australia and New Zealand, a broad range of therapies are covered,
including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mentalisation Based
Therapy, Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and
Compassion Focussed Therapy. Each chapter provides: an assessment
of the evidence base for effectiveness; the adaptations required in
a forensic setting; whether the therapy is aimed at recidivism or
psychological change; the client or patient characteristics it is
aimed at; a case study of the therapy in action. The final section
of the book looks at ethical issues, the relationship between
individual and group-based treatment, therapist supervision and
deciding which therapies and therapists to select. This book is
essential reading for probation staff, psychologists, criminal
justice and liaison workers and specialist treatment staff. It will
also be a valuable resource for any student of forensic or clinical
psychology.
Forensic practitioners work in a diverse range of settings, with a
wide variety of groups and with a large number of agencies. Their
work, whilst rewarding, is challenging, demanding and often
undertaken in highly stressful situations. Ensuring that the
workforce is trained and supported is essential in order to
maintain skilful, knowledgeable, responsive and effective
practitioners. Whilst training, self-directed learning and peer
support all play a role, the need for supervision for practitioners
is increasingly being recognised. This text is aimed at all those
working in forensic settings who have direct contact with the
perpetrators and victims of crime and is written for both those new
to supervision and those with many years' experience. Specific
chapters focus on knowledge and skills for the supervisor and the
supervisee and on those responsible for developing supervision
systems for staff groups. This includes a focus on risk,
boundaries, approaches to learning and the evidence base for
supervision practice. Attention is also given to developing
supervision competence and combatting harmful or 'lousy'
supervision. The core text is supplemented by ten Special Topics
addressing single issues commonly faced in supervision practice,
such as ethical issues and reflective practice. The combination of
comprehensive chapters and a focus on specific issues through ten
Special Topics provides those involved in supervision with an
essential resource. This book is essential reading for supervisors,
students, managers and researchers who are involved or interested
in the supervision process.
Why do so many organizations fail to mobilize the social networks
of employees to respond to disruptions, innovate, and change? In
Digital Relationships, Jason Davis argues that individual and
organizational interests about networking can come out of alignment
such that the network ties that individuals form are
organizationally sub-optimal for achieving their most ambitious
goals. Developing a new perspective about networks and
organizations, he explains through network agency theory how
network problems emerge, the role of digital technology adoption by
organizations in amplifying misalignment, and the capacity of
managers and function of the executive to resolve agency problems
and mitigate their impact. Drawing on over a decade of qualitative
research in US, Asian, and European "big tech" companies and new
analytical and computational modeling, this book offers new
interpretations and solutions to the pathologies that emerge from
organizationally detrimental networking behaviors and in the face
of managerial interventions.

This book explores applied research methods used in forensic
settings prisons, the probation service, courts and forensic mental
health establishments and provides a comprehensive 'how-to' guide
for forensic practitioners and researchers.
It provides practitioners and researchers with grounding in the
practical techniques appropriate for research in applied forensic
settings. This includes knowledge and skills of the research
process and the wide range of research methods (both quantitative
and qualitative) being applied in this arena. The text provides a
critical understanding of the problems, challenges and ethical
issues which can arise and ideas for managing these. Specific
attention is paid to empirical research within forensic populations
and settings including researching vulnerable groups (e.g.
offenders and the mentally ill in secure settings), evaluating
treatment programmes, and the uses and problems of randomised
control trials.
The book is clearly structured, with each methodology chapter
describing the background of the approach; the type of research
questions addressed; design principles and issues; the types of
analysis that can be utilised; strengths and limitations of the
method; future directions and further sources of information.
Through the inclusion of case studies and illustrative examples
from forensic researchers and practitioners who have extensive
experience of conducting applied research, this book tackles
real-life problems typically faced by researchers and
practitioners.
Research in Practice for Forensic Professionals is an essential
one-stop resource for practitioners (such as psychologists, nursing
and medical staff, prison and probation workers, social workers,
occupational therapists) who have an interest in research and in
evaluating their own work and the services in which they work. It
will also be of interest to students studying areas of applied
research, such as forensic psychology or applied criminology and
those teaching them.

The interfacing of man-made electronics with redox proteins and
enzymes not only tells us a great deal about the levels of
sophistication active in biology, but also paves the way to using
it in derived sensory devices. Some of these have already had a
profound impact on both clinical diagnostics and the quality of
life enjoyed by those unfortunate enough to live with disease.
Though much remains to be learnt about controlling and optimising
these interfacial interactions, their potential uses are, if
anything, growing. Written by leaders in the field, this is the
only book to focus on the generation of biosensing interfaces with
analyses and control at the molecular level. Some of these are
enzyme based, others associated with the generation of surfaces for
protein-protein recognition. Summaries of state-of-the-art
investigations into the interfacing of structurally complex
molecular species with electrode surfaces are included along with
their design, analysis and potential application. Studies into the
"wiring" of biomolecules to man-made surfaces through the use of
delocalised "molecular wires" or carbon nanotubes are detailed as
are the application of surface chemical and genetic engineering
methods to the construction of robust, orientated biomolecular
monolayers.

Wronged and Wounded: Choosing Forgiveness in a World of Other
Options explores the practice of forgiveness in our personal lives,
in the life of the Christian community, and as a foundational
component of our Christian witness. The goals of this book are to
help you grow personally in your understanding of Christian
forgiveness and to assist you in equipping others to choose
forgiveness in a world of other options. Operating from a Biblical
perspective, this book will help you think through some important
questions, like: Am I supposed to forgive that person? If I am
still hurt by what someone did, does that mean I have not forgiven?
Do I have to wait for the person who wronged me to ask for
forgiveness before I forgive them? What distinguishes Christian
forgiveness from other messages of forgiveness? What do I do when a
brother or sister refuses to forgive me?
Take a journey inside the life of a man that grew up fatherless and
allowed the streets of New York to raise him. Through passion and
love, "Jason" fought for his rights to be in his son's lives going
against some "heavy weights" like multi-millionaire "Slim" CEO of
Cash Money to gain his child back in his life which him and
"Jason's" baby mother "Shan" refuse to let happen because "Slim"
couldn't have kids and is now raising another man's child as his
own. In the mist of Jason baby momma struggles he falls in love
with a celebrity marketing executive Kimberly, who bore his second
son. Things quickly changed, and hatred, betrayal, and almost death
caused Jason to contemplate suicide. Kim's pillow talk exposed some
dark sex secrets about her long time friend and boss, another
multi-millionaire and global rapper Ludacris and his love for men.
Hold tight this book will leave you in a state of shock as Jason
reveals the truth about his baby mother's artist 2 Chainz. There is
exposure of a few other hard hitting artists, ball players, and
many other explosive stories...
Lady Baldwin is beautiful, desirable, conniving, yet sometimes
kind, extremely generous, and very thoughtful. Loved and hated in
equal measure, it's anyone's guess as to who would ultimately kill
her. Bored with her husband Lord Baldwin and his stuffy friends,
she prefers her exciting show biz pals and the thrills of illicit
sex. As a part of the English Aristocracy, she is very rich,
surrounded by servants, totally outrageous, and she likes to
control everyone's life. Told by a real English Butler with a
certain degree of true English humor, this murder story will give
you an insight into life in a wealthy, country mansion.
In this compelling book, professional educator, Jason Davis, shares
his insider perspective about why, despite millions of tax dollars
and decades of school reform, we are no closer to achieving
meaningful change in our nation's public schools. Readers follow
Davis on a first-person journey through the realities of the public
school system punctuated by shocking and sometimes horrific true
stories about the lives of students, teachers, and families with
whom he has worked. Along the way, he dispels the faulty
assumptions that have been perpetuated by the media and politicians
about why America's children are being left behind, and leaves the
reader with a deeper understanding of the true crisis facing our
schools and our children. Faulty Assumptions is a poignant,
accessible, and fresh look at the world of public school education
guaranteed to challenge the current dialogue about where America
should be looking for answers to the nation's education woes.
Jason Davis was introduced to trout fishing over 25 years ago on a
small Northern Michigan stream. As most trout fishermen do, he
began with a spinning rod and hardware. Eventually, in 2005, Jason
started fishing with a fly rod exclusively. During the winter of
2008 he was invited to a Clinton Valley Trout Unlimited meeting and
learned about the great conservation opportunities within the
Clinton River watershed. Weeks later he joined the Clinton River
Watershed Council for their annual Stonefly Search. This sparked an
interest in local conservation.
