Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford star in this political thriller about the Watergate scandal that brought down President Nixon. Washington Post reporters Carl Bernstein (Hoffman) and Bob Woodward (Redford), aided by the White House mole Deep Throat (Hal Holbrook), thwart Nixon's attempted cover-up after his agents are caught breaking in to the Watergate complex in 1972. The film won four Academy Awards including Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Jason Robards) and Best Writing, Screenplay Based On Material from Another Medium and was nominated for another four including Best Picture and Best Director.
Sergio Leone's epic spaghetti Western starring Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda. Frank (Fonda) is a sadistic outlaw hired by a crippled railroad baron (Gabrielle Ferzetti) to murder a farmer named Brett McBain (Frank Wolff) and his family in order for his boss to inherit the land. When McBain's new wife Jill (Claudia Cardinale) arrives from Utah to find her family slaughtered, she vows to get revenge on the perpetrator, with the help of another outlaw named Cheyenne (Jason Robards) and a mysterious man known only as 'Harmonica' (Bronson).
Morton, the power-hungry owner of a railroad company, hires Frank, a gunfighter without a conscience, to kill anyone who stands in the way of the completion of the railroad. After Frank murders land owner Brett McBain, McBain's widow hires two killers of her own to protect her and gain revenge: a mysterious, harmonica-playing desperado and his rogue sidekick. Using techniques previously unseen in the genre, Sergio Leone utilizes close-ups, color, and Ennio Morricone's trademark score to create a tense and somber meditation on death which is widely considered to be one of the best westerns in cinematic history.
The trials and tribulations of family life, as seen through the eyes of three generations. Gil Buckman (Steve Martin) is a father rather too determined to give his kids the love and care which had been withheld from him as a child. Meanwhile, his Yuppie brother-in-law Nathan (Rick Moranis) is preparing his 3-year-old daughter for life in the fast lane by an accelerated learning programme which causes her to miss out on the more basic joys of childhood. Gil's sister Helen (Dianne Wiest), a single parent, struggles to control her uncommunicative son and wild daughter, while black sheep of the family Larry (Tom Hulce) returns to sponge off his father Frank (Jason Robards) in order to pay off gambling debts.
