This is a history of the 370th Fighter Group in World War II,
conveyed in the words and photos of the veterans. The 370th was
organized in 1943 to fly the P-47 Thunderbolt. When the group
arrived in England in early 1944, they were assigned to the 9th Air
Force and converted to fly P-38 Lightnings. They were involved in
every major Allied offensive from D-Day onward. The group supported
Operation Cobra, flew missions over the Falaise Gap, and flew cover
over Operation Market Garden. On missions after the weather
cleared, the men could actually watch from the base as their planes
made dive-bombing runs on German armored columns. The group
converted to P-51 Mustangs in March 1945, just in time for cover
missions during Operation Varsity, the Rhine River crossing. This
is one of the most thorough and comprehensive group histories
written and is a must for veterans, their families, and
enthusiasts.
1924. In this volume we read of Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, Davy
Crockett, and of George Rogers Clark. We follow the trail of Lewis
and Clark as they made their laborious way west to the Pacific.
These men were followed by such men as Kit Carson, Wild Bill
Hickok, Buffalo Bill Cody and Custer. The story of these men is the
story of the West, the story of the nation. These are but some of
the Great American Scouts. In writing of them we only propose to
detail the matter-of-fact tale of what they did. We must always
remember that the men went into unknown wilds and made it possible
for civilization to follow them. They met adventure coldly,
methodically, and as part of their daily duty. In all our thoughts
of them, we see romance; we see their boldness and courage, for we
have imagination and can picture the lives they must have led!

George Lucas by Brian Jay Jones is the first comprehensive telling
of the story of the iconic filmmaker and the building of his film
empire, as well as of his enormous impact on cinema. At once a
biography, a business manual, and a film history, George Lucas
will, for the first time explore the life and work of a fiercely
independent writer/director/producer who became one of the most
influential filmmakers and cultural icons - a true game changer. On
May 25, 1977, a problem-plagued, budget-straining, independent
science fiction film opened in a mere thirty-two American movie
theatres. Its distributor - 20th Century Fox - were baffled by the
film. The film's production had been a disaster from nearly day
one, hampered by bad weather, malfunctioning props and ill-fitting
costumes. But its release on a quiet Wednesday in May of 1977,
changed cinema forever. The film was Star Wars. The fiercely
independent thirty-three year-old George Lucas was just getting
going. Determined to control every element of the film-making
process he had founded Lucasfilm ltd., in 1971. Among his hits,
Lucas gave us six Star Wars films and four featuring the
globetrotting archaeologist Indiana Jones. Together these ten films
have earned more than $6 billion worldwide and won some of the
largest and most devoted fan bases ever seen. In 2013 he sold
Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion. Along the way the man who
invented the Blockbuster also gave us computer generated imagery
(CGI), created a small animation company called Pixar and
reinvented the way movies were made, marketed and merchandised.
