LCs are self-organized anisotropic fluids that are thermodynamically located between the isotropic liquid and the crystalline phase, exhibiting the fluidity of liquids as well as the long-range lattice order that can only be found in crystalline solids. The addition of nanomaterials to a LC material produces a composite or colloidal dispersion and results into a revolutionary change in their applications. This book will discuss the remarkable performances of nano-particle aided liquid crystals in metamaterials, photonics, functionalized polymer fibres, sensing, and medical diagnostics.
An accessible overview of the varied microorganisms of the gut The human gut contains an extraordinary array of microorganisms existing in intricate symbiosis with the body. These microbiota, numbering in the trillions, play a crucial role in maintaining overall gut health and warding off disease. With as much as 15% of the global population suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) caused by improper composition of gut microbiota, understanding these organisms and their vital contribution to human health has never been more important. The Gut Microbiota in Health and Disease provides a concise, accessible introduction to gut microbiota and their contribution to human health. It offers not only an overview of the relevant microbiota and their roles in the body, but also extended discussion of diseases caused by gut dysbiosis. It offers a crucial window into this growing body of research into a critical area of overall human health. The Gut Microbiota in Health and Disease readers will also find: Detailed analysis of dysbiotic health conditions including obesity, diabetes, and more Thorough treatment of molecular techniques for analyzing gut microbial composition Discussion of lowering diversity of the gut microbiome and the corresponding impact on global health The Gut Microbiota in Health and Disease is essential for researchers and clinicians working in immunology, gastroenterology, clinical microbiology, and related fields, as well as for clinical dieticians and postgraduate or medical students studying in these areas.

The book introduces the oscillatory reaction and pattern formation in the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction that became model for investigating a wide range of intriguing pattern formations in chemical systems. So many modifications in classic version of BZ reaction have been carried out in various experimental conditions that demonstrate rich varieties of temporal oscillations and spatio-temporal patterns in non- equilibrium conditions. Mixed-mode versions of BZ reactions, which comprise a pair of organic substrates or dual metal catalysts, have displayed very complex oscillating behaviours and novel space-time patterns during reaction processes. These characteristic spatio-temporal properties of BZ reactions have attracted increasing attention of the scientific community in recent years because of its comparable periodic structures in electrochemical systems, polymerization processes, and non-equilibrium crystallization phenomena. Instead, non-equilibrium crystallization phenomena which lead to development of novel crystal morphologies in constraint of thermodynamic equilibrium conditions have been investigated and are said to be stationary periodic structures. Efforts have continued to analyze insight mechanisms and roles of reaction-diffusion mechanism and self-organization in the growth of such periodic crystal patterns. In this book, non-equilibrium crystallization phenomena, leading to growth of some novel crystal patterns in dual organic substrate modes of oscillatory BZ reactions have been discussed. Efforts have been made to find out experimental parameters where transitions of the spherulitic crystal patterns take place. The book provides the scientific community and entrepreneurs with a thorough understanding and knowledge of the growth and form of branched crystal pattern in reaction-diffusion system and their morphological transition.
