Public figures require attention, whether from a constituency who
votes them in or out of office, shareholders who decide their
economic benefit to the corporation, or fans who judge their
performances. However, on the periphery of this normal attention
resides a very real risk; that of a much smaller group of
individuals who lack the ability to discriminate between their own
private fantasies and the figure's public behavior. They may be
personally insulted by perceived betrayal, fanatically in love due
to a perceived affectionate or sexual invitation, or simply
preoccupied with the daily life of the public figure. Such
individuals may fixate and do nothing more. Others communicate or
approach in a disturbing way. A few will threaten. And on rare
occasions, one will breach the public figure's security perimeter
and attack.
Stalking, Threatening, and Attacking Public Figures is a
comprehensive survey of the current knowledge about stalking,
violence risk, and threat management towards public figures. With
contributions from forensic psychologists and psychiatrists,
clinicians, researchers, attorneys, profilers, and current and
former law enforcement enforcement professionals, this book is the
first of its kind, international in scope, and rich in both depth
and complexity.
The book is divided into three sections which, in turn, focus upon
defining, explaining, and risk managing this increasingly complex
global reality. Chapters include detailed case studies, analyses of
quantitative data, reflections from attachment theory and
psychoanalytic thought, descriptions of law enforcement and
protective organization activities, mental health and psychiatric
categorizations andunderstandings, consideration of risk assessment
models and variables, victim perspectives, and others.
"Americana: 50 States, 50 Months, 50 Exhibitions" was a long-term
presentation consisting of 50 displays, each approximately one
month long, exhibited between January 2011-May 2012 and coorganized
by Wattis Institute director Jens Hoffmann and CCA's Graduate
Program in Curatorial Practice. The title is a reference to an
exhibition of the same name that was curated by the artist
collective Group Material at the 1985 Whitney Biennial. Each
month's display examined an American state, in alphabetical order
by state name. Through artworks, historical artifacts, curiosities
and other elements, "Americana" focuses on overlooked and
little-known aspects of each state. "Americana" examines the states
as they are today, looking at how America's social and political
imperatives condition the production, presentation and
interpretation of art and exhibition making. The brisk pace of the
50 displays reflects the varied and constantly changing fabric of
this relatively young country and its multilayered, shifting
national identity.
A fascinating account of the avant-garde photo-based arts from the
early Soviet Union, featuring many previously unpublished images
Finalist for a 2015 National Jewish Book Award in the Visual Arts
category Following the 1917 Russian Revolution, photography, film,
and posters played an essential role in the campaign to disseminate
modernity and Communist ideology. From early experimental works by
Alexander Rodchenko and El Lissitzky to the modernist
photojournalism of Arkady Shaikhet and Max Penson, Soviet
photographers were not only in the vanguard of style and
technological innovation but also radical in their integration of
art and politics. Filmmakers such as Dziga Vertov, Sergei
Eisenstein, and Esfir Shub pioneered cinematic techniques for works
intended to mobilize viewers. Covering the period from the
Revolution to the beginning of World War II, The Power of Pictures
considers Soviet avant-garde photography and film in the context of
political history and culture. Three essays trace this generation
of artists, their experiments with new media, and their pursuit of
a new political order. A wealth of stunning photographs, film
stills, and film posters, as well as magazine and book designs,
demonstrate that their output encompassed a spectacular range of
style, content, and perspective, and an extraordinary sense of the
power of the photograph to change the world. Published in

"Stalking" ist mittlerweile ein bekannter Fachbegriff, der
synonym mit "obsessiver Verfolgung" und "obsessiver Belastigung"
gebraucht wird. - Aber was genau ist "Stalking"? Endlose Briefe,
In diesem Buch
South African-born Belgian artist Kendell Geers changed his date of
birth to MAY 1968 as a performance, effectively giving birth to
himself as a work of art. His artistic practice weaves together
African animism, European mysticism, and socio-political activism
with humor, irony, and contradiction. He uses his identity as a
White African like a key to unlock and critique our understanding
and reading of history, art, and language. This book, which focuses
on his works created between 1988 and the present, looks at the
influence of avant-garde traditions from Dada and Surrealism to
Punk, intertwined with the powerful legacy of traditional African
art on his work. Spiritually charged, politically poignant, and
socially engaged, the work cannot be categorized as either European
or African, but is rather a prolonged metaphysical dialogue between
cultures, archetypal signs, and sacred symbols. Included are works
in a diversity of media, including painting, sculpture,
performance, photography, installation, and conceptual art.

An unprecedented look at the wide-ranging artistic work of one of
the 20th century's most significant landscape architects The
modernist parks and gardens of Brazilian landscape architect and
garden designer Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994) earned him awards,
widespread acclaim, and international fame. Over a 60-year career,
he designed more than 2,000 gardens worldwide, the most famous of
which are those he created in collaboration with the architect
Oscar Niemeyer for Brasilia. Although he is best known for his
landscape work, Burle Marx was a prolific artist in a variety of
media, and his larger body of work-which includes paintings,
drawings, tile mosaics, sculpture, textile design, jewelry, theater
costumes, and more-is critical to understanding his importance as a
modernist. An avid horticulturalist, he was among the first to
denounce deforestation in the Amazon region; he also discovered
over thirty species of Brazilian flora, which bear his name. This
beautifully illustrated and groundbreaking publication covers the
full range of Burle Marx's artistic output, as well as his
remarkable home, an abandoned estate that he transformed into his
office, workshop, gallery, and living space. The enduring influence
of Burle Marx's work is also explored through interviews with seven
contemporary artists: Juan Araujo, Paloma Bosque, Dominique
Gonzalez-Foerster, Luisa Lambri, Arto Lindsay, Nick Mauss, and
Beatriz Milhazes. These artists exemplify the extent to which his
work continues to be a source of inspiration. Published in

In recent history, planned violent attacks have persisted in the
United States and abroad. Ranging from targeted attacks on private
individuals, public figures, schools, universities, corporations,
and public venues, among others, these attacks have continued to
illustrate the need for improved threat assessment and management
efforts at local and national levels. In the few years since its
publication in 2014, the International Handbook of Threat
Assessment has become the gold standard textbook for the prevention
of targeted violence. With this new edition, editors J. Reid Meloy
and Jens Hoffmann have expanded their landmark text, reflecting the
rise of scholarship and growth within the field of threat
assessment and management. The book spans across disciplines and
explores the foundations of threat assessment, the fields of
practice in which it is utilized, and provides detail on practical
applications from the most notable threat assessors and programs in
North America, Europe, and Australia. Since the first edition, new
chapters focusing on lone actor terrorism, insider threats,
cyberthreats, the use of artificial intelligence, bystander
effects, and enhanced interviewing techniques, offer new guidance
for threat assessment professionals. International Handbook of
Threat Assessment is the comprehensive resource for mental health
practitioners, law enforcement, and professionals working to
prevent targeted violence. This guide will serve as inspiration for
further research and equip those working to intercept harm with the
necessary tools for intervention.
This wide-ranging and thought-provoking compilation explores the
idea of nonconformity in art, religion, and philosophy. The book
features 55 contemporary artists who work outside the norms of
current practice, alongside both newly commissioned and previously
published texts which, taken together, provide an astute sampling
of recent perspectives on art and ideas. Among the artists whose
work is featured are Margit Anna, Clayton Bailey, Tony Cox, Abu
Bakarr Mansaray, Birgit Megerle, Philip Smith, and Keiichi Tanaami.
The accompanying texts include classic works by Sigmund Freud and
Leo Steinberg, reprinted with new commentary by Mark Edmundson and
Joshua Decter, respectively; a recent essay on unorthodoxy in
Judaism by Alan T. Levenson with a response by Jack Wertheimer; and
a previously unpublished meditation on Aby Warburg's art history by
Georges Didi-Huberman. Distributed for the Jewish Museum, New York
