Transformations: from Males to Men is a collection of haiku and
short essays that focus on personal development. Each chapter's
introduction is a brief essay followed by original and relevant
haiku focuses on the development of the Black males into Black men.
The transformational keys are not limited to any one ethnic or
cultural groups. As Shakespeare points out, all men start out as
the whining school boy who at some points ages into the old man if
he does die a solder with "the bubble reputation." only in our
space are we allowed to be men in the midst of men Transformation
centers on the need for each man to unapologetically be himself. It
is a man or male defined space that it is important that women
acknowledge even when they do not understand. It is important for
men to carve out that space, but also to insure it at all times
respectful of others. However, as men should have no reason to
apologize for being men, neither should Black men apologize for
affirming and celebrating our African heritage. Transformation in
fact, demands it, for it is through looking back into history and
understanding how we were at one time great kings, educators,
inventors, etc., we get an idea of who we truly are and can become:
embracing who I AM an African descendant american born
Transformations is also poignant. It is not a mere feel good book.
It requires the reader to slow down and meditate on where he wants
to go. It demands that we men become responsible and respectable.
character, coupled with respect is the makings of the mature man
Though faith is key to the transformation of boys to men,
Transformations acknowledges that men, perhaps more so than women,
find it difficult to stand on this faith. it is not guesswork but
sometimes it is hard work to keep up the faith Just as
acknowledging who we are as men is key to transformation, as well
as confessing to and atoning for our wrongs, so the same with
faith. Though God is that supernatural being that lives everywhere,
Transformations suggest that at the very least... the truth is
faith faith in your abilities to do the right thing Transformations
is definitely a spiritual book, though it is far from preachy or
judgmental. A pleasant read, it is as enjoyable as it is
informative and educational. At the index, there is list of other
books worth reading, a table explaining the Adinkra symbols found
in each chapter.
An organization's strength lies in the mental, physical, and
ethical sinews of its leader. Most likely, this is you, or soon to
be you, as one of the men and women doing battle daily beneath the
banner of your brand. Whether that brand is a government agency,
having to account for every fiscal dollar, to its executive level
Secretary, not to mention Congress and the President, or whether it
is a corporate brand which has to show its investors and Board of
Directors that it is still to be reckoned with in a highly
competitive marketplace. Regardless of whether you, the leader, are
in the public or private sector, you must be courageous,
indecisive, bold and daring, quick and correct. As a leader, you
are counted on to manage, mold and motivate your team to up the
hill to success. The True Secret of Successful Leadership, Vol. II,
will give you the keys to: Inspire your team Take ownership Unify
your team Focus on mission and goals Be results oriented Have a
positive mindset Be achievers Fly like an eagle Your team will
never grow beyond you (if it does, YOU are in trouble). So, the
question is, are you willing to grow and be out in front even when
it appears you are the only one out there? Whether you are sitting
at the CEO's desk, in a manager's cubicle, riding in a vanpool or
taking that 45 minute subway ride into the office, make affective
use of the time by The True Secret of Successful Leadership.
Between its covers might very well be that spark that provides the
answer to that difficult, perplexing and nagging issue that you
have been dealing with. It may be also spark a vision, a thought,
or a new idea. As a leader, it is your primary responsibility to
make the necessary happen. However, as the book instructs...
successful leaders may not always do; but they always get it done
The True Secret of Successful Leadership, Vol. II, marks a paradigm
shift in the way poetry is used to inspire and motivate. Rarely
does one speak of poetry and progress and high achievers and haiku
in the same breath. The powerpoetry inside this book is a game and
attitude-changer. It is already being used in training and by
motivational speakers. This is because success is recognized
regardless of the cloth its wearing. The True Secret of Successful
Leadership emphasizes and instructs that true success encompasses a
balance of personal and professional effectiveness. The powerpoetry
incorporated in this book is both personal and profession; it is
both affirming and inspiration. Whether you are inspiring to be
that leader or are already there somewhere at the top... the true
leader understands that hard work both maintains and sustains The
True Secret of Successful Leadership, Vol. II, isn't a
quick-tips-start-tomorrow kind of book. The concepts are as simple
as they are intricate. You'll want to study, not skim through this
book. As my daughters often say, You'll want to meditate on it. As
one executive of a charter school wrote, I posted your inspiring
haiku throughout my school. The True Secret of Successful
Leadership is just that kind of book.
Enjoy over 300 beautiful haiku that sweep across the floor of your
imagination like perfect dance partners, seemingly unrestrained by
rules which attempt to choreograph their energetic ebb and flow.
The emotional dance does not leave you breathless, instead, each
shuffle, slide, and twist and turn renews your passion for the
dance.
"The True Secret of Successful Leadership, Vol. I" is an
exceptional new book, brimming with powerful streams of thoughts,
principles, and tactics for becoming a successful leader. Written
in the ancient format of haiku, derived from the very philosophy
which springs forth, Sun Tzu's "The Art of War," it unlocks the
hidden secrets that the most successful in leadership apply on a
daily basis. Citing such powerful sources as CEO's, leadership
coaches, successful entrepreneurs, and great men and women of
history, the author uses power poetry to offer simple strategies
for bringing vision, values, strategies, and practices to
organization and individuals on: Sailing, without Sacrificing
Character Inspiring, Sustaining and Committing Giving in Order to
Receive Building Teamwork Motivating and Accentuating Building From
Within, Project from Without Flying like an Eagle There is no doubt
that "The True Secret of Successful Leadership" will find its way
onto the bookshelves, desks, conference and training rooms, and in
the quoted literature of leading companies, organizations and
individuals. A book that is already being read the world over, it
is written to be applied in day-to-day life by parents, coaches,
entrepreneurs, and community leaders everywhere. "The True Secret
of Successful Leadership" is so inspiring because it captures the
very essence of successful leadership in three lines that echo with
experience and because... The True Secret of Successful Leadership,
as With you, has purpose
the joy, pain and sacredness of intimacy is captured in stirring
poetry. The Intimate Haiku starts from the raw, physical intensity
of intimacy and ends with its spiritual sacredness.
Positive affirmations for self-improvement
Inspirational poetry that assists in the positive affirmations of
who you are.
My Afribets LearningBook is an African-centered activity book that
combines poetry, cutting, pasting and drawing activities. It also
introduces the reader to Swahili for an on-hands enriching
experience. My Afri-bets Learning Book is designed to engage the
teacher, the child, and the parent in a enriching learning
experience.
"God Speaks in Haiku" is the first of two books written by the
author and inspired by Bishop E. Jordan's, "The Laws of Thinking."
The second book, "Spirit Seeking Haiku," as is "God Speaks in
Haiku," some say is like chicken soup for the spirit.
"Spirit Seeking Haiku" is the second of my two books that reflect
upon Bishop Jordan's, "The Laws of Thinking: 20 Secrets to Using
the Divine Power of Your Mind to Manifest Prosperity." My first
book, "God Speaks in Haiku," covers the first ten chapters of
Jordan's book, while "Spirit Seeking Haiku" responds to the final
ten chapters. Both of these books were written while in the process
of reading Bishop E. Jordan's "The Laws of Thinking." It is my hope
that "Spirit Seeking Haiku" will be both an enjoyable read, and one
which leads to freeing the reader's mind and toward spiritual
growth.
Learning the ABCs and vocabulary building through poetry.
"Because of You" is a revealing venture in haiku, with tanka,
cinquaine, and lantern added for good measure. all four styles of
poetry are considered to have originated in japan, and all adhere
to brevity, tight structure, and lend themselves to thoughtful
reflection. however, in this collection of poetry, the haiku, based
on the buddhist philosophy of brevity and simplicity is the
predominant voice. as you read the this collection of haiku that
touches, dives into, and sometimes, unearths the emotional drama
and subtleties of relationships, allow yourself the freedom to
feel, imagine and enjoy. and, it is okay to do so in a coffee or
doughnut shop somewhere, on the train or bus, or wherever else you
find that comfortable place to be. above all, read, be at peace,
and enjoy.
"In a Haiku Meantime" spans several years and through two failed
marriages; yes, two. I thought I had learned something from the
first marriage, but apparently not enough. Many of us have no
realization that we are in the meantime until we look up and find
ourselves knee-deep in a pile of shiggady. Yet, there is nothing
wrong with being in the meantime, for it is time to for reflection
and personal and spiritual growth. "In a Haiku Meantime" takes
readers through the growth and pain of relationships, as well as
its joys and exultations. The meantime is symptomatic of being in
limbo, with the most obvious symptoms being crying, anger, and
confusion. Add stress to the cornucopia of emotions and the one
constant is pain; emotional, physical, and psychological pain, or
any combination of the three. "In a Haiku Meantime" is about the
rediscovering of yourself through haiku. Praise goes out to Iyanla
Vanzant, the for it was her acclaimed book, "In the Meantime," that
had me finding some new revelation about myself that had always
been there; I simply had to release and God did the rest. "In a
Haiku meantime" will be a painful read for some, while for others,
it will be exactly what they need to help them get on out of the
meantime with a good riddance salute. "In a Haiku Meantime," is
wonderful insightful poetry, full of thought, imagination, soul
searching and freedom. Enjoy.
Meditations in Haiku seeks to use its meditative power to aid in
awakening the reader's spiritual eye toward the understanding of
James Allen's classic, As a Man Thinketh. This poetic translation
of selective verse is not meant to be a substitute the reading of
the 1900's classic. The volume of haiku neither seeks to be, nor is
it an exact translation of his work. In fact, the reader is
encouraged to make Allen's book a part of their spiritual reading,
along with this and other books that serve to enhance spiritual
growth. It is said, there is only one truth, yet many roads leading
lead to that truth. Though the roads may change, varying in
distance, size, substance, and directions, the truth however,
remains constant. As such, what may have been lost in transforming
Allen's thought into haiku hopefully will be rediscovered along the
way. All the haiku to form and take up residence in your mind.
Allow them to facilitate the answer to which you seek. Above all,
open your mind to positive thinking and grow in Spirit and
understanding.
Hurry Home reads like a short story, though it is really a
collection of poems that captures the imbalance that occurs when
people who love each other are suddenly separated. The author is
one, though the voices are many. Both male and female, they speak
from the heart about war, about missing their soldier lovers who
have gone off to war, and about what war means to them. Hurry home
is a must read because each and every poem lives a life of its own.
