Ocean Circulation and Pollution Control - A Mathematical and Numerical Investigation - A Diderot Mathematical Forum (Hardcover,... Ocean Circulation and Pollution Control - A Mathematical and Numerical Investigation - A Diderot Mathematical Forum (Hardcover, 2004 ed.)
Jesus I. Diaz
R1,395 Discovery Miles 13 950 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

In the framework of the Diderot Mathematical Forum (DMF) of the European Mathematical Society (EMS), December 19-20, 1997, a Videoconference was held linking three teams of specialists in Amsterdam, Madrid and Venice respectively. The general subject of this videoconference, the second one of the DMF series, was Mathematics and Environment and more specifically, Problems related to Water.

This volume contains the texts of the Madrid site contributions with important, new and unpublished, examples on the modeling, mathematical and numerical analysis and treatment of the associated control problems of relevant questions arising in Oceanography and Environment.

Earth Sciences and Mathematics, Volume I (Paperback, 2008 ed.): Antonio G. Camacho, Jesus I. Diaz, Jose Fernandez Earth Sciences and Mathematics, Volume I (Paperback, 2008 ed.)
Antonio G. Camacho, Jesus I. Diaz, Jose Fernandez
R1,415 Discovery Miles 14 150 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

A Complutense International Seminar on "Earth Sciences and Mathematics" was organised and held in Madrid at the Facultad de Ciencias MatemAticas of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid September, 13th-15th, 2006. Scientists from both fields, Mathematics and Earth Sciences, took part in this International Seminar, addressing scientific problems related with our planet from clearly complementary approaches, seeking to gain and learn from this dual approach and proposing a closer collaboration in the near future. This volume is the first one of a Topical Issue on "Earth Sciences and Mathematics" and contains papers addressing different topics as deformation modelling applied to natural hazards, inverse gravimetric problem to determine 3D density structure, advanced differential SAR interferometry, climate change, geomagnetic field, Earthquake statistics, meteorological studies using satellite images, climate energy balance models, study of soils properties, and multifractal data sets.

The Mathematics of Models for Climatology and Environment (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1997): Jesus I.... The Mathematics of Models for Climatology and Environment (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1997)
Jesus I. Diaz
R2,708 Discovery Miles 27 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book is the culmination of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on The Mathematics of Models for Climatology and Environment which was held at Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, Spain during 11-21 January 1995. One of the main goals of the ASI was to establish a bridge between mathematical modellers on the one hand and physical oceanographers and climatologists on the other. The book is divided into fourth parts containing a total of 16 chapters: Parts I, II and III are devoted to general models and Part IV to models related to some local problems. Most of the mathematical models here considered involve systems of nonlinear partial differential equations. The mathemat ical treatment cover a large list of subjects: existence and uniqueness for well-possed problems, large time behaviour, stability, bifurcation, diagrams of equilibria, conditions for the occurrence of interfaces or free boundaries, numerical algorithms and its implementation, controllability of the problems, etc. I thank Jacques- Louis Lions and Cornelius Johannes van Duijn for their guidance and collaboration as co-directors of the AS . I also thank J.F.Padial and G. Diaz for their help in the planning and conduct of the ASI as well as in the preparation of this book."
