A study with Latino/a subjects highlighting two key conclusions: 1) The subjects employ a modality of empathy which is qualitatively different from classical views of empathy in pastoral care, 2) The subjects employ a series of selfobjects transferences that, when considered from a Self Psychology perspective, suggests that their modality of pastoral care prevents narcissistic injuries to the self while resisting grandiose selfobjects.
