Since the beginning of Korean migration to Argentina in the 1960s,
Korean immigrants in Argentina have massively been involved in the
garment industry. Nevertheless, despite the decades-long
concentration of Korean Argentines in the same sector, the
motivations behind their involvement and the types and styles of
their businesses have been reshaped over time through the twists
and turns of the host country's junctures. Applying rigorous
immigrant entrepreneurship theories, yet wary of orthodoxies, Kim
examines the intriguing paths which Korean entrepreneurs have taken
to develop their businesses in the Argentine garment industry
amidst complex, frantically volatile social and economic
circumstances, and argues for the application of a new approach
that combines existing theories with historically contextual
perspectives. Unlike those of their North American counterparts,
the history, settlement, and current status of Korean immigrants in
Latin America have been notoriously under-examined. Thus, this
unique case-study on Korean immigrant entrepreneurship in Latin
America substantially contributes to bridging the gap between the
North and the South and represents a significant milestone in the
fields of both migration and Korean studies.
The My Korean series of textbooks offers a learner-centered,
communicative task-based, interactive approach to learning
contemporary Korean. My Korean: Step 1 and My Korean: Step 2 are
arranged thematically around topics that any novice learner of
Korean is likely to encounter in their first year of study. Each
lesson contains two dialogues showing contemporary Korean in use,
followed by succinct grammar and vocabulary explanations. The focus
throughout the books is on communicative in-class activities and
tasks that encourage students' active participation. Video clips of
the lesson dialogues are available as an online resource, and each
unit contains communicative activities based on the dialogue
themes. The engaging structure and communicative approach make My
Korean: Step 1 an ideal text for first-semester Korean courses. It
is also a great resource for individual study or one-on-one
tutorials on Korean language and culture.

Cross-Border Interactions and Encounters between Germany and Korea
undertakes a comprehensive exploration of the relatively
under-represented dimensions of cross-border encounters and
interactions between Germany and Korea from an interdisciplinary
perspective. It extends beyond traditional areas of study, such as
diplomatic and economic exchanges, to encompass both historical and
recent phenomena resulting from their interactions through
migration, classical and popular culture, literature, media
representation, and academia. Contributors address topics such as
Korean migration in Germany, Korean culture in Germany, media
representation of each culture by the other country, the impact of
German culture in Korea, the development of Korean Studies in
Germany, and the history of German Studies in Korea. By shedding
light on the multifaceted and diverse dimensions of Korea and
Germany’s relationship, the volume offers fresh perspectives and
valuable insights into Korean-German relations. Published at a time
when globalization and international relations are attracting
increasing attention in both academia and mainstream media, with
only a limited number of academic publications that examine
bilateral or unilateral relations between Korea and a European
country, this book effectively addresses significant gaps in the
fields of both German and Korean studies.
