Nonlinear Interval Optimization for Uncertain Problems (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021): Chao Jiang, Xu Han, Huichao Xie Nonlinear Interval Optimization for Uncertain Problems (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2021)
Chao Jiang, Xu Han, Huichao Xie
R3,719 Discovery Miles 37 190 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book systematically discusses nonlinear interval optimization design theory and methods. Firstly, adopting a mathematical programming theory perspective, it develops an innovative mathematical transformation model to deal with general nonlinear interval uncertain optimization problems, which is able to equivalently convert complex interval uncertain optimization problems to simple deterministic optimization problems. This model is then used as the basis for various interval uncertain optimization algorithms for engineering applications, which address the low efficiency caused by double-layer nested optimization. Further, the book extends the nonlinear interval optimization theory to design problems associated with multiple optimization objectives, multiple disciplines, and parameter dependence, and establishes the corresponding interval optimization models and solution algorithms. Lastly, it uses the proposed interval uncertain optimization models and methods to deal with practical problems in mechanical engineering and related fields, demonstrating the effectiveness of the models and methods.

Urban Development in Post-Reform China - State, Market, and Space (Hardcover): Fulong Wu, Jiang Xu, Anthony Gar-On Yeh Urban Development in Post-Reform China - State, Market, and Space (Hardcover)
Fulong Wu, Jiang Xu, Anthony Gar-On Yeh
R4,434 Discovery Miles 44 340 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Radically reoriented under market reform, Chinese cities are playing an important role in China's economic development. The creation of housing and land markets is rapidly changing the face of Chinese cities. Mushrooming skyscrapers in the newly established central business district contrast shapely with the nearby old urban areas and unruly migrant settlements in urban fringes. Chinese cities present both the landscapes of the first and third world. Yet, radical marketization co-exists with ever-presence of state control. "Urban Development in" "Post-Reform" "China" explores the interaction of China's market development, state regulation and the resulting transformation and creation of new urban spaces. It provides the first integrated treatment of China's urban development in the dynamic market transition. Focusing on land and housing development, the authors show how the market has been "created" under post-reform urban conditions, which in turn challenges state regulation. Urban space constitutes a critical component of China's new growth strategies. Through the reconfiguration of urban space, market-oriented land development has been launched by the Chinese version of local boosterism. The authors examine "the state in action" and highlight how changing urban governance towards local entrepreneurial state facilitates market formation. City planning has been transformed from allocating state resources to place promotion; and municipal government formulated various competitive urban strategies through place-making. The resulting changes in urban internal structure are manifested in the renewal of the city center and urban sprawl at the periphery, creating "novel" urban landscape ofredeveloped central districts, university towns, science parks, and "urban villages."China has been very successful in using urban land development as an economic growth engine. The authors examine complex interactions between the market and state in creating China's new urbanism. State power is unlikely to wane and will persist. Despite more market orientation, the state is still playing an important role in urban development, especially in making the cities more competitive in the era of globalization and the development of service industries.

The workshop invites internationally recognized speakers on the range of topics relevant to silicon photonics and computing systems. Technical topics discussed in the book include: Design and Implementation of Chip-Scale Photonic Interconnects; Developing Design Automation Solutions for Chip-Scale Photonic Interconnects; Design Space Exploration in Chip-Scale Photonic Interconnects; Thermal Analysis and Modeling in Photonic Interconnects; Design for Reliability; Fabrication Non-Uniformity in Photonic Interconnects; Photonic Interconnects for Computing Systems presents a compilation of outstanding contributions from leading research groups in the field. It presents a comprehensive overview of the design, advantages, challenges, and requirements of photonic interconnects for computing systems. The selected contributions present important discussions and approaches related to the design and development of novel photonic interconnect architectures, as well as various design solutions to improve the performance of such systems while considering different challenges. The book is ideal for personnel in computer/photonic industries as well as academic staff and master/graduate students in computer science and engineering, electronic engineering, electrical engineering and photonics.

Governance and Planning of Mega-City Regions - An International Comparative Perspective (Paperback): Jiang Xu, Anthony Yeh Governance and Planning of Mega-City Regions - An International Comparative Perspective (Paperback)
Jiang Xu, Anthony Yeh
R1,365 Discovery Miles 13 650 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Neoliberalism's market revolution has had a tremendous effect on contemporary mega-city regions. The negative consequences of market-oriented politics for territorial growth have been recognized. While a lot of attention has been given to how planners and policy makers are fighting back political fragmentation through innovative governance and planning, little has been done to reveal such practices through an international comparative perspective. Governance and Planning of Mega-City Regions provides a comparative treatment and examination of how new approaches in governance and planning are reshaping mega-city regions around the world. The contributors highlight how European mega-city regions are evolving and how strategic intervention is being redefined to enable the integration of urban qualities in a multi-level governance environment; how traditional federal countries in North America and Australia see the promise of major policies and development initiatives finally moving ahead to herald a more strategic intervention at national and regional scales; and how transitional economies in China witness the rise of state strategies to control the articulation of scales and to reassert the functional importance of state in a growing diffused power context. This book offers case studies written from a variety of theoretical and political perspectives by world leading scholars. It will appeal to upper level undergraduates, postgraduates, researchers, and policymakers interested in urban and regional planning, geography, sociology, public administrations and development studies.

Yanqing Jiang, Xu Yuan
R1,517 Discovery Miles 15 170 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

There is a growing concern among Chinese researchers and policymakers about China's industrial development being unsustainable and the irreversible depletion of natural resources and deterioration of the ecological environment. The relationship between industrial development, pollution and the environmental quality is an important issue that deserves careful study. Environmental considerations play a crucial role in shaping China's development strategies. Green development of China creates strong pressures for continuous transforming, upgrading and restructuring of the Chinese economy. This book explores how China's industrial development relates to pollution and environmental quality, and how considerations about such issues associated with the ecological system affect China's development strategies.

Yufei Jiang, Xu Zhu, Eng Gee Lim, Yi Huang, Hai Lin
R1,469 Discovery Miles 14 690 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This SpringerBrief investigates the performance of semi-blind independent component analysis (ICA) based equalization and carrier frequency offset estimation approaches (CFO) for a number of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based wireless communication systems. It provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges of channel equalization and frequency synchronization for different wireless systems. The authors present the wireless communication channel and system models. Key existing CFO estimation methods are reviewed, along with a number of the training based and non-training based (blind) channel estimation methods. This is followed by a study of ICA and its applications to OFDM-based wireless communication systems. Later chapters provide a detailed description of recent research on semi-blind CFO estimation and ICA based equalization approaches for various wireless communication systems including multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) OFDM and coordinated multipoint (CoMP) systems. Semi-blind CFO estimation and equalization structures provide a spectrum-efficient and high-performance solution for high speed wireless communications. This book is suitable for postgraduate students, researchers or professionals in the area of wireless communications.
