My name is Mike Ross and I'm a Ferryman - like in the Greek myth. I
didn't ask for, or really want, the job, but I'm trying to make the
best of it. Most ghosts are okay and just need a little help to get
where they need to go. Unfortunately, there are lots of exceptions,
like power-mad psychopaths, spirits still trying to fight battles
long since lost, and the worst of the lot - the Skinwalkers. They
live vicariously by possessing people and controlling them like
puppet masters. Then they toss them aside when they've outlived
their usefulness.
One of them stole my father fifteen years ago, and now I'm going
to make that ghost pay.
Praise for Jim Bernheimer
"I couldn't put this book down. I was on vacation when I started
reading it, but not even going to the beach could entice me away.
(I didn't like taking my Kindle to the beach, even with a
protective bag.) The book pulled me in from page one and did not
let go, even at the end which had me searching for the sequel." -
Red Adept Reviews
"A thriller that hits the gut, Jim Bernheimer kept me glued to the
pages."- Pamela K. Kinney, author of Spectre Nightmares and Visions
Exploding from the pages of Horror, Humor, and Heroes Volume One -
it's the full length adventures of the one and only Mechani-Cal So
grab your battlesuit and prepare to get a little nasty. "Being a
supervillain means never having to say you're sorry ... Unless it's
to the judge or the parole board. Even then, you don't really have
to. It's not like it's going to change the outcome or anything."
Those are the words of Calvin Matthew Stringel, better known as
Mechani-Cal. He's a down on his luck armored villain. Follow his
exploits as he gets swept up in a world domination scheme gone
wrong and ends up working for these weak willed, mercy loving
heroes. Immerse yourself in epic battles and see what it's like to
be an outsider looking in at a world that few have ever
experienced. Climb into Cal's battlesuit and join him on his
journey. Will he avoid selling out his principles for a paycheck
and a pardon? Can he resist the camaraderie of being on a super
team? Does he fall prey to the ample charms of the beautiful
Olympian Aphrodite? How will he survive the jealous schemes of
Ultraweapon, who wears armor so powerful it makes Cal's look like a
museum piece? See the world of "righteous do-gooders" through the
eyes of someone who doesn't particularly care for them ... Revel in
his sarcasm and hang on for one wild ride Just remember - Losing an
argument with a group of rioters isn't a good excuse to start
lobbing tear gas indiscriminately at them. You've only got so many
rounds and it's going to be a long day, so make sure you get as
many as possible with each one.
Horror, Humor, and Heroes is a collection of twelve short stories,
one novella, and a preview for my next novel that should contain
enough variety to entertain you readers. Sample some of my finest
offerings, such as - a guardian wolf fearing the coming of man, a
producer willing to do anything to bring the first pay per view
live werewolf hunt to the world, a zombie running for congress, a
vampire trying to get his life insurance company to pay up, a six
year old girl, who makes a cookie people will do anything for, the
story of the first child born on the Moon, or a draftee in a war
against science gone awry. This collection includes the novella,
Confessions of a D-List Supervillain. It is one of my favorite
endeavors and anyone who has ever cracked open a comic book will
appreciate this story about a down on his luck bad guy forced into
the reluctant role of world savior. Also inside is a preview of my
forthcoming series Battle Maidens.
