How does an artist decide what to paint? Consistency Vs. Creativity
is the dilemma. A year of paintings is included in this volume.
Which came first, the painting or the poem? Brock's little book,
"Poems for Drunken Atheists: Illustrated by the Author," represents
the culmination of two decades of off the wall thinking. The poems
are about life experiences, personal opinions, and just plain weird
stuff the author would be pressed to explain. The illustrations are
reproductions of Brock's original oil paintings which have many of
the same themes as the poems. Some of the paintings were destroyed
in a horrific wildfire in 2006 and this book is the only place you
will ever see them. The poems and paintings have been paired
together like fine wine and food. While the book contains a lot of
social commentary it is not intended to promote alcohol abuse or
any particular belief system. Brock's philosophy is whatever gets
you through life is great as long as it doesn't harm others. The
book is basically for fun and for the promotion of unorthodox
thinking. It is best enjoyed with alcohol in a relaxed setting such
as a cozy bar, the bathtub, the water closet, or in bed late at
night with your cat or dog.
