In 1936, impoverished musician Robert Frobisher (Ben Whishaw) finds employment with a composer and in time writes a magnificent piece of his own. In 1975, nuclear physicist Rufus Sixsmith (James D'Arcy) helps journalist Luisa Rey (Halle Berry) expose the truth about a new power plant. In 2012, elderly publisher Timothy Cavendish (Jim Broadbent) finds himself stuck in a nursing home and tries to escape. In a totalitarian world in the 22nd century, clone Sonmi-451 (Bae Doona) is due to be eliminated but decides to fight back and stand up for her own kind. Finally, in a post-apocalyptic Earth, tribe member Zachry (Hanks) helps Meronym (Berry), a woman from a technologically-advanced society, on her journey into the mountains in an attempt to find Cloud Atlas, a station that will allow her to communicate with the people who have left the planet to live in space. The cast, which also includes Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving and Hugh Grant, appear throughout a number of the various segments.
Lone Scherfig directs this romcom, based on the best-seller by David Nicholls, about two friends who reunite every year on the anniversary of their first meeting. Over the following two decades, the ups and downs of the relationship between the idealistic Emma and wealthy ladies' man Dexter are revisited every July 15th, as they try to take stock of their lives, and attempt to discover what they've both been missing all along.
Animated adaptation of the first three books of the 'Guardians of Ga'Hoole' series by Kathryn Lasky. Barn owl Soren (voice of Jim Sturgess) is abducted and taken to St. Aggie's, a home for orphan owls. However, it is no ordinary orphanage - at St. Aggie's young owls are programmed into becoming soldiers and are forced to join the organisation's army. While there, Soren makes friends and together they manage to break out and travel to the island of Ga'Hoole to help a group of owls battle against the evil leaders at St. Aggie's. Geoffrey Rush and Helen Mirren also add their voice talents.
Thriller loosely based on the autobiography by Martin McGartland, former undercover informant to the British police on the activities of the IRA. Set in Belfast in the late 1980s, the film shows how McGartland led a double life for four years while still in his early twenties, revealing nothing of his position even to close friends and family, until his cover was blown in 1991 and he was kidnapped and tortured by the IRA. Ben Kingsley co-stars as Fergus, McGartland's British 'handler'.
