Following its tradition of promoting novel areas of scienti?c discourse, the Ernst Schering Research Foundation (ESRF) hosted this workshop on chronic viral and in?ammatory cardiomyopathy. In late October 2004, scientists from Canada, Germany, the Georgian Republic, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Israel, Sweden, and the United States ga- ered in Berlin to discuss their concepts, hypotheses, and latest ?ndings on myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. This expert meeting was held in cooperation with the German - search Foundation, which in the same year had supported transregional collaborative research activities entitled "In?ammatory Cardiomyo- thy - Molecular Pathogenesis and Therapy." Organizing the workshop, our efforts strove to render tighter the network between the distinct disciplines involved in cardiomyopathy - search, building bridges between its molecular, pathogenetic, diagnostic, and therapeutic determinants. It all began as a story of a neighborhood, and we would like to express our hope that this long-term project, which will require much and - tensive cooperative work among the participants, will evolve to become a story of a good neighborhood.

Twin polymerization is a novel approach where two distinct polymers are produced from a single source monomer, thus being an excellent tool for the synthesis of hybrid materials. The author introduces the principles of various twin polymerization processes, their classification and practical use. The book is supplied with numerous individual examples, demonstrating the potential of this strategy in materials synthesis.

Einmalig war die Dauer der wissenschaftlichen Hoch- schatzung, die er in einer Zeit einer immer kurzlebiger werdenden wissen- schaftlichen Reputation genoss. Friedrich war neben Lasswell einer der wenigen, die sowohl vor 1945 als auch nach 1945 unter den 15 bedeutendsten Politikwissenschaftlern genannt wurden. ! Es wird schwer sein, unter den funf Voraussetzungen wissenschaftlicher Reputation einen einzelnen Grund fur die Bedeutung C. J. Friedrichs herauszustellen. Neue Ideen entwickelte Friedrich - so umstritten manche (vor allem in der Totalitarismusforschung) gewesen sein mogen - besonders in der Erfor- schung des Konstitutionalismus, des Foderalismus und des Totalitarismus. Seine bekanntesten Beitrage zur Systematisierung der Forschungsergebnisse sind die Werke "Constitutional Government and Democracy" (1937 ff. ) und "Man and His Government" (1963).
