Die europaische Integration veranderte die Migrationsverhaltnisse erheblich: Zwischen den EU-Mitgliedstaaten wurden unter dem Begriff der "Freizugigkeit" Grenzubertritte sowie Arbeit und Niederlassung von Staatsangehoerigen anderer Mitgliedslander weitgehend erleichtert, Binnengrenzen verloren also an Bedeutung.
