In preparation for the United Nation's Conference on Environment
and Development in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, this study aimed to
detail enduring environmental issues that might or might not have
been considered at the conference. Originally published earlier
that year, Global Development and the Environment questions the
compatibility of goals for environmental protection, natural
resource consequences and economic growth in relation to
sustainability with essays on important topics such as
biodiversity, agriculture and population issues. This title will be
of interest to students of Environmental Studies and Economics.
Results of a comprehensive two-year study analyzing the facts and
policy alternatives. Originally published in 1979.
Originally published in 1989, Greenhouse Warming combines papers
presented at a workshop held in 1987 to discuss climate change.
This study identifies ways that climate impacts upon agriculture,
forestry and water resources in order to advise on safeguarding
against drought, flood and extreme cold as well as what policies
can be implemented to adapt to the probable physical and
socioeconomic impacts of climate change. This study will be of
interest to students of environmental studies.

Originally published in 1983, Energy and Household Expenditure
Patterns claimed that two-thirds of energy consumption in the
United States came from households. This study aimed to estimate
the expected changes in household activities and how this would
affect energy consumption in the country as a whole. Also discussed
are implications of direct energy purchases and spending on energy
goods in households as well as predicting the growth in energy
consumption leading up to the year 2000. This title will be of
interest to students of Environmental Studies and Economics.
In 1992, Resources for the Future conducted a workshop concerning
the issues of global climate change. This title, originally
published in 1993, is a collection of the revised versions of the
papers commissioned for the workshop with an added introduction and
overview. Each paper emphasises the potential nonlinearities or
surprises in physical effects caused by humans loading the
atmosphere with greenhouse gases and examines how shifts in the
natural environment from climate change may affect human
well-being. This collection is a valuable resource for any student
interested in environmental studies and climate change issues.
