Unable to close his previous case against the Monument Bomber,
Senior FBI Special Agent Zane Rigby has been re-assigned to uncover
a secret. Is Abraham Lincoln's body in his grave? When DNA from a
hand found with a blackmail note traced back to 1901 matches the
DNA from bone taken at Lincoln's autopsy, Rigby is shuffled off to
Springfield, Illinois where all manner of obstacles threaten his
success. He discovers a local congressman hiding a dreaded secret,
a strange doctor who claims he can perform medical miracles and his
own ill-timed urge to rekindle a relationship with his college
sweetheart. And then there is the dead body of a young woman found
near Lincoln's Tomb. As the Monument Bomber threatens to strike
again, Rigby searches for redemption in solving the murder and
discovering the secret buried in Lincoln's tomb.
FBI Special Agent Zane Rigby, in the Office for Cases of Historical
Significance, is called upon to find the answer to a more than
seventy-five-year-old question. In 1935, did Franklin D. Roosevelt
travel to Cocos Island off Costa Rica to go fishing or to search
for the treasure of the Bloody Sword? Zane goes straight to the
source of the controversy, political commentator, Paul Mallory, to
force him to come clean. But when he arrives one problem stands in
his way: Paul Mallory has been murdered Rigby soon finds himself in
the midst of personal, political, and criminal troubles. A
beautiful British treasure hunter vies for his affections; the
Speaker of the House's agenda to end polarization in Washington is
put in jeopardy; and Rigby's nemesis, the Monument Bomber, is
determined to blow up Mount Rushmore. Each complicate and confuse
Rigby at every twist and turn. All seems lost as Rigby is suspected
of murder, while an assassin has him clearly in his sites and is
ready to pull the trigger. Rigby must unravel the secret of the
Bloody Sword or face his own bloody end.
Proposition 13 was the greatest tax revolt in American history
since the Boston Tea Party. In June 1978, Californians rose up
behind a colorful, irascible, unlikely leader, 74-year-old Howard
Jarvis, and turned the political world upside down. The first shot
in the Reagan Revolution, the Proposition 13 tax revolt changed the
world. Told by an insider, this is the story of the politics, odd
tales and bizarre arguments that surround the fabled tax revolt
from its success at the polls to its survival, despite constant
attacks, 25 years later. It is the story of a legend in the making.
