Various effects of the atmosphere have to be considered in space geodesy and all of them are described and treated consistently in this textbook. Two chapters are concerned with ionospheric and tropospheric path delays of microwave and optical signals used by space geodetic techniques, such as the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), or Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR). It is explained how these effects are best reduced and modelled to improve the accuracy of space geodetic measurements. Other chapters are on the deformation of the Earth's crust due to atmospheric loading, on atmospheric excitation of Earth rotation, and on atmospheric effects on gravity field measurements from special satellite missions such as CHAMP, GRACE, and GOCE. All chapters have been written by staff members of the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation at TU Wien who are experts in the particular fields.

Der Autor stellt den Einfluss des Nationalsozialismus auf die Presse der deutschen Volksgruppen in Rumanien, Ungarn und dem ehemaligen Jugoslawien in der Zwischenkriegs- und Kriegszeit dar. Er nennt reprasentative Journalisten der erwahnten deutschen Volksgruppen, die es mit ihren Berichten und Kommentaren meisterhaft verstanden, den Kampf um die Macht, die Machtergreifung sowie Ausbau und Sicherung der Macht der NS-Erneuerungsbewegung salonfahig zu machen. Der Autor legt die historischen Sachverhalte und Ereignisse, die bestimmenden Personen und die wichtigsten Einrichtungen im Pressewesen wahrend der Hitler-Diktatur nach Moeglichkeit zeitungskundlich fest. Es ware tief bedauerlich und unverantwortlich, wenn die Sorgen dieser deutschen Volksgruppen nach 1945 die Erfahrungen mit der gleichgeschalteten Presse allzu schnell vergessen liessen.

In dieser Studie werden jene Personen der OEffentlichkeit in Erinnerung gebracht, die die Kriminalitat des staatlich institutionalisierten Nationalsozialismus innerhalb der deutschen Volksgruppen in Rumanien, Ungarn und dem ehemaligen Jugoslawien unterstutzten und die deutsche Bevoelkerung einem verbrecherischen Regime auslieferten. Nach 1945 beherrschten diese ehemaligen Nazis nicht nur die Landsmannschaften der Deutschen aus diesen Landern in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, sondern auch das Sudostdeutsche Kulturwerk und die Sudostdeutschen Vierteljahresblatter. So konnten sie ihre fragwurdige Geschichtsauffassung ungestoert verbreiten und ihre Kritiker mit Schmahkampagnen und Einschuchterungsversuchen verunglimpfen. Deshalb widmet sich diese Arbeit der Frage, wie es moeglich war, dass sich diese Vertriebenenpolitiker mit brauner Vergangenheit nach 1945 wieder an die Spitze ihrer Landsleute setzen konnten.

Das Buch wurde auf einer breiten Basis von bislang kaum einschlagig ausgewertetem offiziellem Quellenmaterial, zeitgeschichtlichen Dokumentationen und Einzeldarstellungen, von Tageszeitungen, Zeitschriften und Kalendern, von Privatarchiven und Zeitzeugenaussagen erstellt. Es informiert uber die politische, kulturelle und wirtschaftliche Lage der Deutschen im Unabhangigen Staat Kroatien und im serbischen Banat von 1941 bis Ende 1944. Die Untersuchung konzentriert sich auf die innere Organisation der beiden deutschen Volksgruppen und ihrer NS-Volksgruppenfuhrungen, auf ihr Eindringen und ihre Einbindung in weitere gesellschaftliche Systeme sowie auf den Personenkreis, der die strategische NS-Fuhrung der Volksgruppe in Kroatien und im Banat innehatte. Betrachtet werden weiterhin die radikale Militarisierung der deutschen Bevoelkerung in Kroatien und im serbischen Banat und ihre Ausrichtung auf die Grundwerte des Soldatentums. Thematisiert werden das Ustascha (Ustasa)-Regime in Kroatien, der Zugriff der Waffen-SS auf deutsche wehrfahige Manner in Kroatien und im serbischen Banat sowie die Aufstellung und der Einsatz der 7. SS-Freiwilligen-Gebirgs-Division "Prinz Eugen" und ihre Beteiligung an der brutalen Bekampfung jugoslawischer Partisanen.

Der rasante Ablauf der Ereignisse im deutschen Siedlungsraum von Rumanien in der Zwischen- und Kriegszeit bilden den Rahmen dieses Buches. Thematisiert werden das Eindringen des Nationalsozialismus und die daraus resultierenden Auseinandersetzungen zwischen den politischen Gruppierungen der Deutschen in Rumanien sowie das Verhaltnis der Evangelischen Kirche A.B. zu den sich bekampfenden Gruppen von 1932 bis 1940. Behandelt wird auch die Gleichschaltung der Deutschen Volksgruppe durch Volksgruppenfuhrer Andreas Schmidt nach 1940.
