In der letzten Zeit sind mehrere Untersuchungen von mir und meinen Mitarbeitem iiber die Spektra der Kanal strahlen einer Reihe von chemischen Elementen bereits erschienen oder werden demnachst veroffentlicht werden. Entsprechend ihrer Aufgabe sind diese Spezialuntersuchun gen so eingehend gehalten, daB der Femerstehende weder aIle Einzelheiten iiberblicken kann, noch fiir sie sich interes sieren wird. Da indes ihre Resultate von Bedeutung fUr die elektrische Struktur der chemischen Atome sind, so mag an diesen auch der nicht spektralanalytisch tatige physikalische Fachgenosse und auch mancher Chemiker Interesse finden. Aus diesem Grunde habe ich mich ent schlossen, der Offentlichkeit eine kurze 'Obersicht iiber jene spektralanalytischen Untersuchungen und die aus ihnen sich ergebenden Folgerungen iiber die Stmktur des chemischen Atoms zu unterbreiten. Die drei ersten Abschnitte der vorliegenden Schrift bilden in der Hauptsache den Inhalt eines Vortrages auf der diesjahrigen Versammlung Deutscher Naturforscher und Arzte in Wien. Sie sind in dieser Schrift durch Zusatze und flinf weitere Abschnitte fUr den Zweck jener 'Obersicht vervollstandigt worden.
