This unique book features the expertise of father-and-son
educators who bring together a wealth of diverse knowledge about
the abundance of potential careers in education. While most people
associate education careers with classroom teachers or school
principals, this rewarding area of work offers one of the most
diverse employment fields. Written by professionals with real-world
knowledge of the profession, this information-packed guide provides
the career explorer with concise information on the necessary
skills, training, certification/licensure, compensation, and
employment outlook for each career covered. The editors also
provide an overview and guide to self-assessment that helps readers
to learn about those careers that best match their interests and
temperament.
The guide describes careers in education that range from working
with very young children to adults in organizational settings. It
discusses careers suitable for those who enjoy working with people
as well as careers for individuals who are more comfortable working
with information or ideas. A particularly useful feature of the
book is information about alternative paths to working in education
for those with degrees in related service professions. Careers in
K-12 settings are organized according to a Response to Intervention
(RTI) framework and are thus listed by developmental and learner
age levels. Careers outside of traditional settings include
administrator, work in higher education, adult education,
independent educator, and community-based educational services.
Special attention is paid to positions in educational technology,
one of education's fastest-growing careers.

The electricity industry is a key utility and which impacts nearly
every facet of life. One major question is how best to provide and
oversee the production of energy -- are free markets the answer or
should the government assume the task of keeping its citizens'
needs supplied? The level of electricity regulation has particular
resonance in America, as witnessed by the recent catastrophe in
California and the collapse of energy giant Enron. Policymakers
have to balance the American tradition of capitalism with the
concerns of those who view the energy industry as damaging to the
environment and focused more on profits than people. Collected here
is a set of papers introducing the issues influencing electric
policy along with a an extensive bibliography of the book and
journal literature on the subject, making this book an important
resource for understanding the problems of electricity
restructuring.
Sunderland Transport takes the reader on a ride back in time on the
trams and buses that once plied the city's streets. Put together by
local transport enthusiast John Carlson, this book is packed with
photos, illustrations and diagrams that depict the growth and
change in public transport when Sunderland was still a town,
including the many different types of trams and buses that were in
the corporation's employ and at the Wheatsheaf, Hylton and Fulwell
depots including the repair and maintenance facilities. Also
covered are the services of Sunderland and District Tramway Company
and its follow-on bus operations and those of the Economic bus
company. Along the way there is a good glimpse of some of the local
features such as the Wear Bridge, town centre shops and the long
tramline up Durham Road that make Sunderland such a unique place in
which to live.
Roughly moving around the town along the old 'figure of eight'
electric tram route that opened in 1906, this book rediscovers the
lost world of the horse-drawn and electric trams through to
trolleybuses and motorbuses operated by South Shields Corporation
Transport. The Corporation boasted that there was no part of the
town that was more than a quarter of an hour's walk away from this
route.
The presence of God is real, personal and meaningful. God is
everywhere and so always with us. The key is in seeking God's face
in order to live in a greater realization of His transformational
presence. Psalm 27 dives deep into King David's experience of
living in the context of the presence of the Lord. This volume
examines what it is to Seek God's face, pursue intimacy with the
Lord, as well as challenges to help the reader work through the
doubts and distractions that will inevitably arise. This book also
includes questions to help the reader understand and reflect on how
these things may be learned and applied more effectively.
This devotional commentary is designed to take the reader beyond
the surface beauty of the Psalm, into the striking depths of this
great Psalm of comfort and strength. The study provides opportunity
for reflection and application, while carving a path for a deeper
understanding of the theology of the Psalm. This volume will take
the reader through words that may be very familiar, to find an even
greater appreciation for the heavenly perspective of life on earth
that is provided by Psalm 46.
John Carlson takes a new look at the north-western rail scene.
Focusing mainly on the years 1975 to 1985, this collection of
around 180 colour and black-and white-images, almost all previously
unpublished, takes a look the regions railways in the 1970s and
1980s. Captured here are images that encapsulate intercity
expresses at speed and rest, show freight being shunted and hauled
in yards and on main lines, and portray the enthusiasts and
passengers that photograph and ride them. Although focusing on the
region’s major railway centres, such as Carlisle, Preston and
Manchester, branch lines and out of the way vantage points have not
been neglected.
