This title provides an accessible introduction to psychoanalytic
explanations of consumer desire. Topics are drawn widely to reflect
the scope of Freud's vision and include dreams, sexuality and
hysteria. Discussion is widened to selectively include authors such
as Melanie Klein and Jacques Lacan, and to include evaluation of
current research.
Although distance education has developed rapidly over the past
decade, writing on the subject is still scattered over a diverse
range of often inaccessible sources. This book brings together a
selection of the best writing on distance education in recent
years, and is an essential reference for all who work in the field.

First published almost a century ago, Malay Poisons and Charm Cures
remains a classic and still definitive reference on the
pharmacopoeia and practices of Malay healers, shamans (bomoh) and
sorcerers (pawing). Gimlette, a British physician, resided in the
Malay State of Kelantan for over a decade, during which he gathered
the data that comprises the core of this work. Intended as a
medical reference for the Colonial Administration, Gimlette's
observations were far more widely encompassing, shedding light not
only on traditional pharmacology and toxicology, native theories of
disease, medical practice, religious ritual and superstition, but
also on Malay anthropology generally. With the present revival in
interest in traditional medicine, herbal toxins and treatments, as
well as in shamanic practice, Gimlette's work offers rich rewards
for a new generation of readers.

It is 1953 in the peaceful town of Barrow-in-Furness; but when two
philandering Irish tank corporals - fresh from the Korean War -
mistakenly pitch up at the local RAF camp, mayhem ensues! Mistaken
for IRA activists by the delusional RAF Sergeant Wilfred 'Large
White' Price, corporals Conlon McCall and Liam McShea soon plot an
elaborate revenge... But their plan quickly spirals out of control,
triggering off a chaotic melee of comedic misadventure involving
the local newspaper's 'ace reporter' Cedric Montgomery Farquhar, a
slurry-fixated local farmer, and the real, albeit equally bumbling,
IRA... With its larger-than-life cast of hilarious characters, this
gleefully puerile slapstick comedy is guaranteed to raise a
chuckle.
The Christian rosary is a devotion in which a set of beads is used
to keep tally of the prescribed prayers while pondering with Mary,
the Mother of the Lord, on the significant events in the life of
her son, Jesus Christ. The most popular of all Catholic devotions,
rosaries are also well known in other religious traditions
beginning in ancient times. A detailed and readable study of the
Rosary in its various forms has long been needed. Devotion to the
Blessed Virgin Mary is at an all time high, judging by the
popularity of parish Rosary groups, pilgrimages to Marian shrines
and the many accounts of apparitions of Our Lady around the world.
Dr. Miller's book aims to fill a real need for the many who wish to
take their devotion and their prayer life to new depths, to
understand the perennial importance of Christian meditation, and to
understand more fully the tradition to which they belong.
