In this book a veteran country parson emerges from obscurity to
focus upon the root causes and a possible long term solution of the
most intractable problem facing today's Christianity, and
especially his own Anglican Communion - its crippling and
deep-seated disunity in the face of relentless secularist attack.
John Fitch's "eirenicon," defined as "a proposal tending to make
peace," while explicitly disclaiming the slick or superficial,
offers a distinctive long-term approach to this issue with a touch
of originality. His intriguing diagram on the front cover hints at
the line taken - a no-holds-barred analysis of the uniquely
Anglican concept of "churchmanship." The book, though deadly
serious, is by no means devoid of humour; at the very least it
deserves a patient reading from all who share the author's
concerns. Born in June 1922, John Fitch read History and Theology
at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. After preparing for
ordination at Wells Theological College in Somerset, he served for
forty years in various Suffolk parishes, retiring in 1987. He was
appointed an Honorary Canon of St Edmundsbury in 1975 and was a
co-founder of the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust. Now living in
Essex, he has one son, two daughters, and seven grandchildren. His
previous areas of publication have been antiquarian and
genealogical.
An unusual and irreverent guide to transforming your meetings from
time-sucking interruptions to productive moments of collaboration -
whether your team is together or virtual. What if meetings could be
the high point of collaboration in your day, instead of the usual
time-sucking soul-draining experience they often become? In this
guide, expert facilitators Douglas Ferguson and John Fitch tackle
the myth that the most effective way to get more out of meetings is
to just avoid having them or to have less of them. In a well-run
organization, meetings should actually be integral to getting sh*t
done. Meetings are the secret underappreciated weapon that
businesses are using badly. And why do they use them so badly?
Because no one has been taught how to make them better. In this
guide, you will learn: What if having an agenda has no effect on
whether you have a great meeting? What happens when you actually do
the work in the meeting? What are the five common elements of every
meeting that sucks, and how do you avoid them? Douglas and John
show you how to adopt and adapt the non-obvious Meeting Mantras
they developed at their company, Voltage Control. Their methods
have helped companies and teams transform the perception of
meetings from "going to the dentist" (ie - something you have to do
but hate) into something you can't wait for - like a rock concert
or great dinner.
DISCO 92 was held on the Newton Park campus of Bath College of
Higher Education, England, April 13-15, 1992. Beside the formal
lectures dedicated to design and implementation issues of computer
algebra, there were several software demonstrations and an
opportunity for system designers to compare systems. This volume
presents the proceedings of the conference. It contains 18 papers
on a variety of design and implementation issues. One general theme
which clearly emerges is the need for interconnections between
systems, as no one systems incorporates all the facilities that
users want. Various effortsare being made to design such links, but
generally in limited contexts (suchas the Maple project or the
Posso project).

The Yellowstone Caldera has erupted once every 600,000 years. We're
40,000 years overdue. A LAND OF ASH Lava flows stretch for hundreds
of miles. A cloud of ash billows east, burying the Midwest,
destroying crops, and falling upon the Pacific Coast like a warm,
dead snow. The remnants of the United States flees south as the
global temperatures plummet. Amid this total devastation are
stories of families, friends, sons and fathers and wives: the
survivors. Within are eleven stories focusing on the human element
of such a catastrophe, from an elderly couple gathering to await
their death to a father sealing his shelter in hopes of keeping the
air breathable for his daughter. Contributing to this collection
include many popular and up-and-coming independent authors,
including David McAfee, Daniel Arenson, and more.
