TIME LAPSE: COLLAPSE is one of a three book series that tells the
story of Duncan Duggard, a 14-year-old boy who lives with his
grandparents in a small town in Michigan. A sensitive boy, Duncan
is often bullied at school and sometimes experiences strange
stoppages of time. After Duncan's grandparents give him a beautiful
silver amulet necklace as a birthday gift, Duncan is visited by the
ghost of his late mother, who tells him that time itself is in
danger of collapsing and that only he is the only one with the
power to stop this catastrophe. Heeding his mother's call, Duncan
sets out on a series of amazing adventures that change both him and
the world around him.
Articles on English music, from the medieval period to the present
day, centred on four of the major areas of scholarly enquiry. The
major themes of the essays in this collection reflect the work of
the distinguished scholar John Caldwell, professor of music at
Oxford University and a composer in his own right. There is a
strong focus on early music, with contributions considering the
medieval carol, sources for seventeenth- and eighteenth-century
harpsichord music, and the transmission of fifteenth-century
English music to the Continent; but they range right up to the
twentieth century, with an examination of music in Oxford. All are
concerned in one way or another with themes which recur in
Professor Caldwell's scholarship: sources; style; performance; and
historiography. Contributors: SALLY HARPER, DAVID HILEY, EMMA
HORNBY, HARRY JOHNSTONE, MARGARET BENT, DAVID MAW, MATTHIAS RANGE,
REINHARD STROHM, PETER WRIGHT, MAGNUS WILLIAMSON, JOHN HARPER,

John Harper's fascinating book recalls streets, houses and public
buildings, shops, businesses and pubs that have vanished or been
altered almost beyond recognition. The reader is taken on a
conducted tour through the past and present streets of this ancient
town, and is encouraged to compare present-day streetscapes with
archive photographs and other illustrations made from the same
viewpoints. The book - featuring many never-before-seen photographs
by Paul Barder - is essential reading for anyone who is interested
in how the Tamworth of yesterday evolved into the town of today.
This book is intended as an introduction to the principal forms and
orders of Western liturgy between about 900 and 1700, to explain
their nature and basic historical origin, and to present in detail
the contents and orders of principal services as well as additional
and special forms of worship. The book emphasizes the mainstream of
Western liturgy derived from the medieval Roman Rite as found in
secular and monastic churches. After the Reformation it
concentrates on the rites of the Roman Catholic Church and the
Church of England. There is consideration of the nature of liturgy,
a historical summary, and individual chapters on medieval churches
and their communities, the Christian calendar, medieval liturgical
books, the Psalms, the Office, the Mass, Processions and Additional
Observances, Holy Week and Easter, the Tridentine Rite, and the
English Book of Common Prayer. There are two further chapters which
raise the problems of establishing the order of a liturgical
service, and introduce selected medieval sources accessible in
facsimile or edition. A select, annotated bibliography and a
glossary of ecclesiastical and liturgical terms are included.
This is a pre-1923 historical reproduction that was curated for
quality. Quality assurance was conducted on each of these books in
an attempt to remove books with imperfections introduced by the
digitization process. Though we have made best efforts - the books
may have occasional errors that do not impede the reading
experience. We believe this work is culturally important and have
elected to bring the book back into print as part of our continuing
commitment to the preservation of printed works worldwide.
