R is now the most widely used statistical package/language in
university statistics departments and many research organisations.
Its great advantages are that for many years it has been the
leading-edge statistical package/language and that it can be freely
downloaded from the R web site. Its cooperative development and
open code also attracts many contributors meaning that the
modelling and data analysis possibilities in R are much richer than
in GLIM4, and so the R edition can be substantially more
comprehensive than the GLIM4 edition. This text provides a
comprehensive treatment of the theory of statistical modelling in R
with an emphasis on applications to practical problems and an
expanded discussion of statistical theory. A wide range of case
studies is provided, using the normal, binomial, Poisson,
multinomial, gamma, exponential and Weibull distributions, making
this book ideal for graduates and research students in applied
statistics and a wide range of quantitative disciplines.

This new edition of the successful multi-disciplinary text
Statistical Modelling in GLIM takes into account new developments
in both statistical software and statistical modelling. Including
three new chapters on mixture and random effects models, it
provides a comprehensive treatment of the theory of statistical
modelling with generalised linear models with an emphasis on
applications to practical problems and an expanded discussion of
statistical theory. A wide range of case studies is also provided,
using the normal, binomial, Poisson, multinomial, gamma,
exponential and Weibull distributions. This book is ideal for
graduates and research students in applied statistics and a wide
range of quantitative disciplines, including biology, medicine and
the social sciences. Professional statisticians at all levels will
also find it an invaluable desktop companion.

This helpful volume sets out to clarify the Church of England's
thinking about baptism, confirmation and admission to communion,
and addresses some very practical questions in relation to ministry
in this area. Discussion of the topic is grounded in the New
Testament and the early Church, and is traced through the
development of the Church's theology and practice of initiation
from the mediaeval and Reformation periods up to the present.
Drawing on the Book of Common Prayer (1662), the Thirty-nine
Articles and Common Worship, as well as on Scripture and the
Church's tradition, it sheds light on contemporary practice and
understanding, which can - and do - vary locally. Anglican
approaches to Christian initiation are also explored in relation to
those of other churches.

approved remedies employed for the cure in every case; with
instructions to the shoeing-smith, farrier and groom; how to
acquire knowledge in the art of farriery and the prevention of
diseases preceded by a popular description of the animal functions
in health and showing the principles on which these are to be
restored when disordered. The Contents are divided into the
following three books: The Origin and Seats of Various Diseases in
the Horse explained, with a view to their Cure or Mitigation; The
Causes and Symptoms of various Bodily Diseases incident to the
Horse; with the most approved Remedies in every Case; and Of the
Leg and Foot of the Horse; or, Shoeing-smith's Guide.

The town of Ladysmith was one of the most important coal-mining
communities on Vancouver Island during the early twentieth century.
The Ladysmith miners had a reputation for radicalism and militancy
and engaged in bitter struggles for union recognition and economic
justice, most notably the Great Strike of 1912-14. This strike, one
of the longest and most violent labour disputes in Canadian
history, marked a watershed in the history of the town and the coal
industry.
