Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Consider the Stars will not only be a delight to read, it will be a
valued experience to be shared over and over again. Whether you
make reading the seasonal stories a tradition or use its lessons to
supplement your Bible study, church service or simply entertain
your youth group, Consider the Stars will be an active tool in your
library. In addition to the sketches and correlating lesson plans
that make up the majority of the book, a short study of acting is
included at the end of the book with its focus bent toward the
Christian actor by understanding that everything a person chooses
to do or not to do is based on a belief system. Why is drama
important in presenting moral principles? It's often difficult to
repeat what was preached even a moment ago, much less apply it, yet
we can all recall a song or story that we heard even decades ago.
Likewise, whether you believe he is who he says he is or not, Jesus
is remembered mainly because he didn't tell us which way to go...he
showed us through the stories he told and the life he lived.
All GPs undertake the non-NHS work, some of which can add
substantially to practice income. This book describes a wide range
of fee-paying work which GPs are uniquely qualified to undertake;
it shows how opportunities for this work arise and how to become
involved in it. For many, the financial benefits are greatly
enhanced by the professional satisfaction such work brings.
The NHS pension scheme is the largest in Europe. This guide
explains how it works and how to maximize its benefits and avoid
its pitfalls. The book covers: recent changes to the scheme
including new provisions for early retirement; personal pensions,
financial planning and investment options; advice on preparing for
retirement and working after retirement; state benefits; and health
and leisure in retirement. It is written for all NHS staff and
should be of particular value to GPs and salaried doctors.
For more than fifty years, the United States supported the
Colombian military in a war that cost over 200,000 lives. During a
single period of heightened U.S. assistance known as Plan Colombia,
the Colombian military killed more than 5,000 civilians. In Plan
Colombia John Lindsay-Poland narrates a 2005 massacre in the San
Jose de Apartado Peace Community and the subsequent investigation,
official cover-up, and response from the international community.
He examines how the multibillion-dollar U.S. military aid and
official indifference contributed to the Colombian military's
atrocities. Drawing on his human rights activism and interviews
with military officers, community members, and human rights
defenders, Lindsay-Poland describes grassroots initiatives in
Colombia and the United States that resisted militarized policy and
created alternatives to war. Although they had few resources, these
initiatives offered models for constructing just and peaceful
relationships between the United States and other nations. Yet,
despite the civilian death toll and documented atrocities,
Washington, DC, considered Plan Colombia's counterinsurgency
campaign to be so successful that it became the dominant blueprint
for U.S. military intervention around the world.
