modern "Stand Your Ground" laws. But just as important as
discussion of these crimes and defenses, the lecture also covers
some of the most significant structural issues and skills that
should be useful to you to figure out how criminal trials work,
issues like distinguishing the roles of lawyers, judges, jurors and
legislators, and skills like applying criminal statutes to
particular cases and analyzing appellate decisions. Some useful

This book includes chapters 3, and 9-23 of the main volume.
For the first time there is a Criminal Law textbook specifically
geared to Master's level or undergraduate legal studies/law courses
on the subject. The book, written by well-known legal scholars,
fills a void. Master's In Legal Studies programs have become quite
commonplace in the United States, and, additionally there are
colleges experimenting with new undergraduate law programs. Faculty
teaching in those programs, or teaching in Criminal Justice
classes, however, typically have three imperfect choices if they
want to use the case method of teaching law: 1) they use a Juris
Doctor level casebook but assign substantially less material from
the book; 2) they use a simplistic undergraduate or high school
level textbook; or 3) they develop their own materials. This
textbook, then, offers a perfect alternative. First, each chapter
begins with an overview of the law on the subject covered for
simple and easy access. The book that contains thought provoking
problems designed to stimulate thought and produce interesting
classroom discussion. The hypos are woven throughout the chapters
and are designed to help students learn doctrine, illuminate trends
in the law, and ultimately produce better learning. The book is
also meant to teach practical skills to students going into the
field. Some of the problems place students in practical situations
that they are likely to encounter in a criminal justice career, and
therefore encourage students to think about how they might handle
those situations in real-life. The book is designed to be a very
affordable paperback.

This book includes chapters 1-8 of the main volume.
This book gives you everything you need to know about basic
criminal procedure principles, presented in a no-nonsense fashion.
It includes references to recent, relevant decisions handed down by
the United States Supreme Court. In addition, Principles of
Criminal Procedure contains helpful study devices such as "focal
points" at the beginning of each chapter, and "points to remember"
at the end of each section. This is the only study aid you will
need to help you understand basic criminal procedure principles in
U.S. law.
This study aid features an innovative method of content
organization. It uses a checklist format to lead students through
questions they need to ask to fully evaluate the legal problem they
are trying to solve. It also synthesizes the material in a way that
most students are unable to do on their own, and assembles the
different issues, presenting a clear guide to procedural analysis
that students can draw upon when writing their exams. Other study
aids provide sample problems, but none offer the systematic
approach to problem solving found in this book.
