Bruce Beresford directs this 1970s musical comedy starring Barry Humphries and Terry Thomas. In the small town of Sludgley, two nightclubs try to outdo each other by booking the best British bands they can get hold of when the local authorities uncover an age-old law that means only one of them can remain open. The film includes performances by Mud, The Rubettes, Kenny and many others.
The author has waited all his life to see great, wise statesmen at the top of our governmental pyramid. Now he has created for them extraordinary, exciting poetry. As a veteran of many wars, he now waits to die, but before he passes away, he wishes to obtain moral satisfaction, which is to publish this enthusiastic, inspired book of poetry. About our unusually strong present government, which cares for our people and country the best and leads us to the highest achievement, he writes this story in the name of our good citizens, super country, superb Bush administration, and in the name of our Almighty Heavenly Father, Great Creator of the universe forever and ever. Amen.
Although important ladies have discriminated against me, I still love them and wish to suggest to them how to find a nice rich man for a husband. However, these poems concern all ladies, powerful or weak, big or small, who are looking for a good, wealthy man for a husband. My advice in these emotionally-tinged poems should help them on their way. And should any eminent pretty lady among you fall in love with my soul through these poems, please come to me. We can be with one another and become one flesh, legally and spiritually, through marriage certification.
