THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER AND SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
BESTSELLER The legendary Willie Mays shares the inspirations and
influences responsible for guiding him on and off the field in this
reflective and inspirational memoir. Even if, like me, you thought
you had pretty much read and heard all there was to read and hear
about Willie Mays, this warmhearted book will inform and reward
you. And besides, what true baseball fan can ever get enough of
Willie Mays? Say Hey! Read on and enjoy. --From the Foreword by Bob
Costas "It's because of giants like Willie that someone like me
could even think about running for President." --President Barack
Obama Widely regarded as the greatest all-around player in baseball
history because of his unparalleled hitting, defense and
baserunning, the beloved Willie Mays offers people of all ages his
lifetime of experience meeting challenges with positivity,
integrity and triumph in 24: Life Stories and Lessons from the Say
Hey Kid. Presented in 24 chapters to correspond with his
universally recognized uniform number, Willie's memoir provides
more than the story of his role in America's pastime. This is the
story of a man who values family and community, engages in
charitable causes especially involving children and follows a
philosophy that encourages hope, hard work and the fulfillment of
dreams. "I was very lucky when I was a child. My family took care
of me and made sure I was in early at night. I didn't get in
trouble. My father made sure that I didn't do the wrong thing. I've
always had a special place in my heart for children and their
well-being, and John Shea and I got the idea that we should do
something for the kids and the fathers and the mothers, and that's
why this book is being published. We want to reach out to all
generations and backgrounds. Hopefully, these stories and lessons
will inspire people in a positive way." --Willie Mays
With the breakup of the former Yugoslavia and a pending NATO
membership bid, an old conflict between Greece and Macedonia has
taken on added significance for the international community. Greece
has vehemently argued, particularly in the West, that the name
Macedonia was in fact Greek and that its use by this new nation in
the Balkans portended Macedonia's expansionist ambitions. The
Macedonians bitterly disputed this, noting that Alexander the Great
was a Macedonian, and adducing many other fascinating and rational
arguments. Tensions were said to have been reduced by an interim
agreement between the two countries, but the attempted
assassination of Macedonian president Kiro Gligorov in October 1995
has again heightened hostility in the area. The genesis of the
conflict is detailed here, as well as the modern day events that
have led many observers to believe that the area is a flashpoint
for a major war, greater than that in Bosnia.
The Lord's Prayer accompanies the lives of Christians. When we are
happy or sad, when we eagerly wait for a child to be born or
silently keep watch as an elder dies, alone in the woods or
together in liturgy, filled with gratitude or emptied by grief,
driven to praise or dragged to repent, the Our Father finds its way
to our lips. To Dare the Our Father recognizes and respects these
experiences but it envisions praying the prayer as a more sustained
and challenging undertaking. How does praying the Our Father inform
our thinking, feeling, willing, and acting? How does it become for
us a transformative spiritual practice? John Shea explores these
questions and more to discover what it looks like to become people
of prayer.

With a goal of transcendent awareness, John Shea presents this
commentary on the Sunday Gospel readings for those who are drawn to
the spiritual wisdom of the Gospels. Ideal for Christian preachers
and teachers, and Christians who meditate on the Gospels, Shea's
book takes a literary-spiritual approach. He analyzes the mindsets
of characters and how Jesus complimented, critiqued, praised these
mindsets, to inspire meditation, reflection, and spiritual
development. "Eating with the Bridegroom, Year B" is the second
book of a four-volume set, "The Spiritual Wisdom of the Gospels for
Christian Preachers and Teachers." This set is a lectionary-based
resource that references both Roman Catholic and Revised Common
Lectionaries, making it useful and interesting to various Christian
denominations. A Scripture index makes Shea's insightful
reflections accessible for personal reflection on the Gospel texts
as well as other uses outside of liturgical preparation. With
wisdom relevant to our contemporary world, "The Spiritual Wisdom of
the Gospels for Christian Preachers and Teachers: Eating with the
Bridegroom" will find its way to the top of your resource list.
