Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
This collection of African stories was originally published in 1910. It is the record of a delightful hunting trip to those fascinating regions along the Equator illustrated with many photographs and cartoons. This book will appeal to those with an interest in the history of hunting and natural history. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original artwork and text.

1917. Illustrated. Davis was an American journalist and novelist who covered wars all over the world. His vivid accounts made him one of the leading reporters of his day. The Lost Road begins: During the war with Spain, Colton Lee came into the service as a volunteer. For a young man, he always had taken life almost too seriously, and when, after the campaign in Cuba, he elected to make soldiering his profession, the seriousness with which he attacked his new work surprised no one. Finding they had lost forever, his former intimates were bored, but his colonel was enthusiastic, and the men of his troop not only loved, but respected him. 1896. After graduating from the newly built Purdue University, Ade wrote for some newspapers in Lafayette before moving to Chicago where he found work at The Morning News, which later became the Chicago Record. He began publishing his own work in 1896, and kept writing for the rest of his life. He was well known as a humorist and for his tongue-in-cheek style of writing. Ade writes in the Preface: This little book is not supposed to contain any new information. It is made up of plain observations concerning people who live just around the corner. If the reader will bear in mind that only the people who live around the corner are discussed in this volume, there will be no chance for painful misunderstandings. 1914. Ade, American humorist and dramatist, uses fables to deliver his observations on various topics including urbanization, education, sports, automobiles, salesmanship, the workingman's world, the shopkeeper, relationships and the dreams of youth. His view is that of a man who was born and raised in west Indiana farm country just after the Civil War, and who became a big city newspaper columnist, a successful playwright, world traveler and national celebrity. Sprinkled throughout Ade's fables are references to contemporary persons and events whose significance might escape the modern reader.
