The accomplishments and the available expertise of scientists
working on spin systems, lattice gauge models, and quantum liquids
and solids has culminated in an extraordinary opportunity for rapid
and efficient development of realistic strategies and algorithms of
ab initio theoretical analysis of conventional and exotic
condensed-matter systems. This volume presents the latest results
in the interdisciplinary field of lattice many-body systems. These
include magnetism and phase transitions and lattice gauge problems
in quantum field theory. Also treated are strongly correlated
systems that help to unify many-body problems in solid-state
physics, crystallography, and materials sciences and that helped
their quantitative understanding.
Neural-network models for event analysis are widely used in
experimental high-energy physics, star/galaxy discrimination,
control of adaptive optical systems, prediction of nuclear
properties, fast interpolation of potential energy surfaces in
chemistry, classification of mass spectra of organic compounds,
protein-structure prediction, analysis of DNA sequences, and design
of pharmaceuticals. This book, devoted to this highly
interdisciplinary research area, addresses scientists and graduate
students. The pedagogically written review articles range over a
variety of fields including astronomy, nuclear physics,
experimental particle physics, bioinformatics, linguistics, and
information processing.

“Boy Thing is a thing of wonder. These are poems that negotiate
anew the tender, hurt territory of a boy abruptly unfathered with
every fresh reading; and that travel into the wonderment of
becoming a father of boys. We are given a boy’s-eye-view of 1970s
Cornwall with a music and detail so meticulous that we yearn with
Clarke for its lost territories. But these are not just poems of
archive or archaeology; they are revelatory, dynamic and raw.
Clarke is crucially attuned to the secret messages received in
boyhood – its preoccupations and awakenings, epiphanies and
abuses, and its shames. This book is unmissable: human and humane,
grimy and sublime.” - Fiona Benson “Boy Thing is a beautiful
book – sensual, atmospheric, full of nature and ritual. These
poems while formally precise, possess a rawness that is startling
and utterly compelling.” - Ella Frears
One of the enduring legacies of the Revised Common Lectionary is
its ability to draw different parts of scripture together to form a
coherent narrative, drawing congregations from around the world
into the life-changing message of faith in Jesus Christ. Each
element of the lectionary brings its own point of view into this
message, giving us insights into its origins, the impact on its
original hearers, as well as its relevance for our lives today. In
the gospel message, we see the drama of Jesus' life and ministry
and are challenged to join in it.
"The View from the Cross" brings us back to the central image of
our faith, the death of Jesus on the cross followed by his
victorious resurrection. Drawing on the gospel readings in the Lent
and Easter seasons, Dr. Clarke offers a new perspective on the
journey of Jesus to Jerusalem and ultimately to Golgotha and the
cross. In examining the words and deeds of Christ during this
season, we as the church of today can grow in our faith and set out
to fulfill the plan God has for us today.
This collection of sermons is a valuable resource for:
- Sermon starters and illuminating illustrations
- Gaining a new homiletical perspective to the lectionary
- Offering a newer, deeper understanding and appreciation of
scripture
- Using as a starter for adult Bible study groups or personal
devotions
This sermon collection includes:
Expectations and a Crown
The Gardens of Life
Living a Joyful Life
... and many more
Rev. Dr. John W. Clarke is the pastor of the First Congregational
Church of Meriden, Connecticut. He was educated at Thomas Edison
State College, Bangor Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Providence
College and Theological Seminary (D.Min.). He is certified as a
field education supervisor for Yale Divinity School as well as in
geriatric pastoral care. Before pastoring in Meriden, he ministered
at Congregational churches in the Connecticut communities of South
Britain and Stratford. His previous publications with CSS include
"Father, Forgive Them" and "Toward a Hope-Filled Life." He and his

Hope is a virtue we are born with, but that hope does notpeek out
at the world unless we feed it and allow it to grow. Hope allows us
tolive outside the lines, to face fear and cast it out, and to live
life as agift. John W. Clarke has created a Bible study to fuel our
hope.This ten-session study guides the reader toward a hope-filled
life. This studycounters the despair and futility that pervades the
world around us, pointingus toward hope's eternal source. Sessions
include: Hope: How Is It Lived -- How Is It Visible? HHope: An
Expectation Of Something Yet To Be Hope: That Is Radical Our Hope
Is A Forever Thing Hope: And The Power Of God's Presence Hopeful
Understanding Hope: Jesus - And God's Loving Concern Living Between
Now And Not Yet, and Preserving The Hope-Filled Life Each lesson
includes thought-provoking questions fordiscussion and
consideration. This study works well for various age groups, from
teenagers through seniors, who are working toward a life of hope
andpromise. John W. Clarke is an ordained minister in theUnited
Church of Christ who currently pastors First Congregational Church
inMeriden, Connecticut. He is the author of What Good Is
Christianity Anyhow?and A Quest for Silence. Clarke is a graduate
of Bangor TheologicalSeminary and Providence Theological Seminary
(Otterburn, Manitoba, Canada).
Condensed Matter Theories, Volume 16
