Bill Pohlad directs this biopic about the musician, songwriter and
founding member of The Beach Boys. In the 1960s, emerging talent
Brian Wilson (Paul Dano) struggles to comprehend the sudden fame
that his hit records have brought him and his band, and, after a
panic attack, he turns away from touring and sets his mind to focus
on creating the greatest album ever made. Later on in his life,
Wilson (John Cusack)'s struggles turn to ones of health and sanity
as his therapist Dr. Eugene Landy (Paul Giamatti) sees it necessary
to have his patient permanently medicated. When Wilson, a shadow of
his former self, meets car saleswoman Melinda (Elizabeth Banks) she
finds herself determined to rid the innocent man of his
brainwashing doctor and recapture the talent that he once
possessed.

[Beaumarchais'] fame rests on Le Barbier de Seville (1775) and Le
Mariage de Figaro (1784), the only French plays which his
stage-struck century bequeathed to the international repertoire.
But his achievement has been adulterated, for 'Beaumarchais' has
long been the brand name of a product variously reprocessed by
Mozart, Rossini, and the score or so librettists and musicians who
have perpetuated his plots, his characters, and his name. The most
intriguing question of all has centered on his role as catalyst of
the Revolution. Was his impertinent barber the Sweeney Todd of the
Ancien Regime, the true begetter of the guillotine? . . .
Beaumarchais' plays have often seemed to need the same kind of
shoring up as his reputation, as though they couldn't stand on
their own without a scaffolding of good tunes. Yet, as John Wells'
lively and splendidly speakable translations of the Barber , the
Marriage , and A Mother's Guilt demonstrate, they need assistance
from no one. [Beaumarchais] thought of the three plays as a
trilogy. Taken together, they reflect, as John Leigh's commentaries
make clear, the Ancien Regime's unstoppable slide into revolution.

Period action adventure set in the late 19th century, directed by
Hugh Hudson ('Chariots of Fire'). Christopher Lambert stars as
Tarzan of Greystoke, who as an infant was orphaned on the west
coast of Africa following a shipwreck, and was rescued and brought
up by a family of highly-evolved apes. Twenty years later, a
Belgian hunter, Captaine Phillippe D'Arnot (Ian Holm), encounters
the man who has now become Tarzan, Lord of the Apes when the
ape-man rescues him from a terrible death. When the Captaine finds
evidence to prove that Tarzan is the direct descendant of the Earl
of Greystoke, he takes it upon himself to return the man to
civilization. But Edwardian England is very different to the wilds
of the African jungle, and Tarzan finds himself torn between two
irreconcilable worlds...
After leaving school at 15 in 1950, John Wells began an
apprenticeship with one of the country's leading pipe organ
builders. On completion of National Service he resumed his career
as an organ builder, which took him around the United Kingdom and
on several occasions across the Atlantic, allowing him the
priceless opportunity to meet and be reconciled with the mother who
had left home when he was just six years old. Ultimately John
joined the Civil Service, helping to maintain, repair and replace
the many organs and pianos in military establishments, prisons,
British schools and government offices at home and abroad. In the
decade since retirement he has become a specialist in American
'duck stamps' and conservation stamps, a subject in which he has
become an acknowledged expert. His first book was an authoritative
specialist publication, The History and Local Post of Rattlesnake
Island, Lake Erie. This, his life story, is his second.
