The postcards in It'll All Be Over By Christmas paint a picture of
the First World War as experienced by those at home, at the front,
in training, in hospital and in convalescence. These personal
messages were sent from fathers to their wives and children, sons
to family, friends and loved ones - sharing their thoughts, hopes
and worries as well as the lighter side of life. There are cards
from those at sea, in prisoner-of-war camps and those of the
Central Powers. Featuring over 150 illustrations, including some
rare examples, the book also demonstrates how the postcard was
ulitised to enlist volunteers and boost morale through humour,
sentimentality and propaganda. Postcards encouraged support of the
war effort through fundraising, sending 'comforts' to those on the
front line and promoting practical roles for women. This
fascinating book offers a profound insight into the experiences of
war through postcards, as well the part that they played in
promoting it.
This is a story of steamy tourist entanglements between two women
and two men under the baking hot sun of two midsummer weeks in 2016
in the picturesque Rhodes village of Lindos. In a tale of a Greek
labyrinth of relationships - encompassing instant attraction, lies,
deceit, callous betrayals, and cold hearted revenge - both the
women harbour a deep secret within them.
This is the final part of a Lindos trilogy: Why would anyone stab
someone to death and then want to prevent identification of the
body by incinerating it in the beautiful tourist village of Lindos
on the island of Rhodes? Who is the victim and who is their
murderer? That is the mystery that confronts Inspector Dimitris
Karagoulis in July 2010, just over four weeks before his
retirement. Just like the Inspector s personal life, his attempts
to identify the victim and find the killer also develop into a
tangled web of possibilities, stretching far beyond Lindos.
The relaxed holiday atmosphere in the picturesque little village of
Lindos is shaken into one full of suspicion and tension when the
dead body of a British ex-pat is discovered early one June Friday
morning in nearby St. Paul's bay. Enquiries by Inspector Dimitris
Karagoulis from Rhodes Town soon uncover a web of infidelity,
jealousy, misinformation, and gossip in the village, particularly
amongst the ex-pat community. Over the following weekend further
events lead him even to doubt the true identity of some of the
people involved, and to question their past. The urgency for the
arrest of the murderer or murderers is heightened by growing
concern by the bar and restaurant owners in the village over damage
to the tourist trade. As the Inspector's enquiries proceed he
eventually discovers a story extending back long before that
summer, and far beyond the Greek paradise of Lindos.

This is a story of how hope of a change materialised in
Czechoslovakia in 1989 during the 'Velvet Revolution', told through
the experiences of two Czech women and an Englishman during that
period. It is set in the Czech Republic in 1994, with recollections
of the tide of circumstances of the 'Velvet Revolution' in 1989
that affected the relationships of the three central characters. It
tells interwoven stories of the hopes of the Czech people in 1989,
their situation in the Czech Republic five years later, and the
man's hope in 1994 of a meaningful relationship with one of the
women having made what he feels was the wrong choice between them
four-and-a-half years previously. It is a tale of parallel
journeys; the journey of a country in 1989 and the journey of a man
in his life. Both have a journey of hope.
