Encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronic Power Engineering, Three
Volume Set provides a detailed reference on power engineering,
presenting comprehensive information from a beginner’s
perspective. Users will save a dramatic amount of time and effort
when searching for foundational information on any specific topic
within power engineering. Each topic is covered at a consistent
level of detail using a consistent and clearly laid-out structure
and approach. This dedicated, rigorous encyclopedia is designed to
present summarized information with technical foundations, but also
with practical applicability of the collected information. This
book will be a key tool for a variety of individuals, including
design power engineers, technical staff, researchers in the field,

During the past decade many countries in the world have experienced
droughts, with severe impacts on water urban supply systems.
Because droughts are natural phenomena, water utilities must design
and implement drought management plans. This topic was selected for
the International Course on Drought Management Planning in Water
Supply Systems, which took place in Valencia, Spain, on 9-12
December 1997, and was hosted by the Universidad Internacional Men
ndez y Pelayo (UIMP). The contributions in this book have been
carefully selected and presented in four sections: Introduction
Water Supply Systems Modernization Drought Management in an Urban
Context Practical Cases (Israel, USA, Italy, Spain) To achieve a
well-balanced approach, authors were invited from academia as well
as from consultancies and water utilities, and have wide experience
in the subject. The book is mainly aimed at water supply engineers,
working in utilities and consultancies.
1 The present volume is rich in essential phenomenological
descriptions 2 and insightful historico-critical analyses, some of
which cannot be fully appreciated, however, except by close
examination on the part of the reader. Accordingly, such a task
ought to be left to the consideration and judgment of the latter,
save where such discussions are directly relevant to the topics I
will be dwelling upon. I prefer, then, to approach the matters and
questions contained here otherwise, namely, archeologically. In
this I 3 follow Jose Huertas-Jourda, the editor of the
corresponding French vol- 4 ume, in his felicitous terminological
choice, although I adopt it here for my purposes in an etymological
sense, i. e. , as signifying a return to prin- 5 ciples or origins.
This, after all, is consistent not only with the spirit and
practice of phenomenology, as acknowledged by Aron Gurwitsch often
enough, but as well with what he has actually said, to wit: it is a
qu- tion of 1 Cf. , e. g. , infra,in An Outline of Constitutive
Phenomenology, Chapter 4, pp. 185 ff. (Henceforth I shall refer to
this book as Outline. ) This essay will be devoted to the study of
selected parts of the contents of this volume, although, when
necessary, use will be made here of other works by various authors,
including Gurwitsch. 2 Cf. , e. g. , ibid. , Chapter 3, pp. 107 ff.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed postproceedings of
the Third International Workshop on Wirelss and Mobility organized
by the European Network of Excellence on Next Generation Internet,
EURO-NGI 2006, held in Sitges, Spain in June 2006.
The 19 revised full research papers presented were carefully
selected during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The papers
are organized in topical sections on WLAN characterization,
vehicular networks, WLAN and sensor networks protocols, QoS and
routing in ad-hoc networks, heterogeneous networks, resource
management in cellular networks, TCP in wireless, and mobility
agents.
Kidney cancer is the 10th most common cancer in Europe with overall
mortality rates increasing until the late 1980s and early 1990s and
thereafter, stabilised. Until recently, renal cell carcinoma (RCC)
was thought to represent a monomorphic disease; however, modern
genetic characterisation has demonstrated different subtypes with
specific cell types and molecular metabolism. Imaging diagnostic
methods are basic for staging and for new treatment strategies.
Moreover, tumour biopsy has been reintroduced in the diagnostic
armamentarium, mainly in patients with small masses but also when
disseminated tumours need to be treated with new target therapies.
Although TNM stage, Fuhrman grade and Eastern Oncology Group (ECOG)
performance status are the most recognised prognostic factor in
RCC, active research continues to determine new prognostic factors
to classify different risks for death from RCC. Laparoscopy has
gained widespread popularity because of a less morbidity and a
faster post-operative convalescence. Partial laparoscopic
nephrectomy is a demanding operation that can be made depending on
the experience of the surgeon, the size or location of the tumour
in the kidney. New robotic approaches are being introduced for
nephron sparing surgery. Conversely, cardiac bypass can be
necessary for resection of tumours with thrombus extending into the
inferior vena cava above the level of hepatic veins. With the
advent of modern ablative energies (cryotherapy or radiofrequency)
for renal tumours in selected patients with percutaneous or
laparoscopic techniques, it is now possible to achieve long cancer
specific survival with decreased morbidity. A need for
standardisation of follow-up after surgery with lifelong protocols
has been recognised in last years. Finally, angiogenesis inhibitors
have demonstrated a high probability of disease control in patients
with metastatic renal carcinomas. Their indication as adjuvant in
local advanced tumours as well as the role of nephrectomy in
patients with metastatic disease is being evaluated in current
clinical trials.
Social housing has a long tradition in Europe. Since the early 20th
century, these often anonymously built and unappreciated structures
have arisen all across the suburbs of Europe’s major cities. In
the multidisciplinary and international research project Mapping
Public Housing, the Center for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism
at the University of Porto’s Faculty of Architecture has been
tracing the architectural heritage of social housing. The findings
demonstrate that, in many cases, vibrant neighbourhoods and entire
city districts have emerged from such social housing programs. This
book takes a closer look at exemplary developments in Germany,
Great Britain, Portugal, Switzerland, and Spain. The case studies
cover a wide range of social and historical contexts, from the
beginnings of social housing in Portugal sparked by German
investment during World War I to the propaganda policies associated
with subsidised housing for the working class in the 1940s, and to
sustainable concepts and ideas for the future. Hidden in Plain
Sight offers a wide-ranging panorama that recognises the
development of subsidised residential construction as a part of
Europe's cultural history and traces the important role that
state-funded housing has played in the emergence of the European
welfare state.

CURTIS, BIRD [2], PUETTER, SAUTER [15]).
Ortega's response is an original contribution to the psychology of
perception. But, as was his habit, Ortega ranges far beyond his
ostensible subject; the book may properly be characterized as an
heroic attempt to clarify the nature and grounds of truth. It
develops ideas contained in his first book, Meditations on Quixote,
and introduces new concepts--such as core or nodal problems in any
field of inquiry--which would have lasting consequences in his
work. This volume includes an appendix, "Toward a Philosophical
Dictionary," which defines terms important to lectures.
