This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference
proceedings of the 6th IFIP WG 13.6 Working Conference on Human
Work Interaction Design, HWID 2021, held in Beijing, China, in May,
2021. The 10 revised and extended full papers presented were
carefully selected for inclusion in this volume. The papers deal
with the analysis and interaction design of a variety of complex
work and life contexts found in different business and application
domains. They focus on interaction design for work engagement
taking usability of interactive systems to the next level by
providing employees pleasurable and meaningful experiences via the
tools used at work. The papers are organized the following topical
sub-headings: Trends in human Work Interaction Design; Workplace
& work experience Analysis for Interaction Design; and
Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Human Work.
This book explores key contemporary issues of democracy in our
globalized and highly technologized world. Written from an
interdisciplinary perspective, with contributions including the
fields of philosophy, political science, media studies,
linguistics, and aesthetics, it reflects on the characteristics of
the democratic state and democratic social practices.The book
features contributions on topics such as the status of political
parties, the separation of powers and the rule of law, bureaucracy
and meritocracy, equality, forms of democratic participation and
governance, comparisons between historical and contemporary
democratic practices, individual rights, propaganda, political
engagement, and consent. Further, it discusses how global
information flows and new technologies affect democratic processes,
including topics such as cyber-activism and open-source software as
a means of empowerment to ethnocentric and class-centric
technological design, globalization and media neutrality, and the
mechanization of public administration. Overall, the book
demonstrates how historical, philosophical, technical, and
institutional issues relate to contemporary democracy. It will
appeal to political theorists, social scientists and everybody
interested in contemporary democracy.
This book is a collection of chapters from the IFIP working groups
13.8 and 9.4. The 10 papers included present experiences and
research on the topic of digital transformation and innovation
practices in the global south. The topics span from digital
transformation initiatives to novel innovative technological
developments, practices and applications of marginalised people in
the global south.
