Who was the enigma the world knows as Christopher Columbus . . .
and why has his true identity been covered up for centuries?
When an aged scholar is found mysteriously dead in his hotel
room, Thomas Noronha, expert cryptographer and professor of
history, is called upon to finish the man's unresolved
investigation. In the course of unraveling the puzzles and
cryptograms shrouding his late predecessor's work, Thomas discovers
a code that will set him on a breathtaking race across the
globe--from Lisbon to Rio to New York and Jerusalem--as he is drawn
into one of the greatest mysteries of all time, a shocking
revelation that will alter everything we've always believed about
one of the world's most celebrated adventurers.
This title critically reviews old and new literature, help to
create greater awareness of the disease in the US and helps in the
evaluation of certain epidemiological and public health issues.
During the first half of the 20th century, Chagas disease was
assumed to be absent from the U.S. and considered an exotic
disease, until the first two indigenous cases were discovered,
almost simultaneously, in Texas, 1955. Since that time four
indigenous cases have been documented in several places in the
country. Although the disease is still considered uncommon in the
US, this disease is not longer an exclusive Latin American
illness.
Physicians in the US are often unaware of the characteristics of
the diseases, and are likely overlooking locally acquired cases.
The influx of an estimated 300,000 Latin American immigrants with
the Chagas parasite means that there is an urgent need for
physicians and public health officials to become aware.

Power electronics and variable frequency drives are continuously
developing multidisciplinary fields in electrical engineering and
it is practically not possible to write a book covering the entire
area by one individual specialist. Especially by taking account the
recent fast development in the neighboring fields like control
theory, computational intelligence and signal processing, which all
strongly influence new solutions in control of power electronics
and drives. Therefore, this book is written by individual key
specialist working on the area of modern advanced control methods
which penetrates current implementation of power converters and
drives. Although some of the presented methods are still not
adopted by industry, they create new solutions with high further
research and application potential.
The material of the book is presented in the following three
parts:
Part I: Advanced Power Electronic Control in Renewable Energy
Sources (Chapters 1-4),
Part II: Predictive Control of Power Converters and Drives
(5-7),
Part III: Neurocontrol and Nonlinear Control of Power Converters
and Drives (8-11).
The book is intended for engineers, researchers and students in
the field of power electronics and drives who are interested in the
use of advanced control methods and also for specialists from the
control theory area who like to explore new area of
applications.
Training and certification for Seafarers has been founded on
technical aspects, but maybe the most important thing to do aboard
a ship is dealing with people. This book, written with seamen in
mind, covers areas of expertise that every officer should know to
improve motivation, engagement, teamwork, and conflict handling; in
short, to be a leader. This book also covers the new requirements
for every officer or merchant marine and can be used in courses on
this topic. It focuses on seafarers' needs and the language used,
avoiding the excessive use of psychological terms, yet keeping the
accuracy. Features Covers new requirements for every Merchant
Marine Officer Written for and by a seaman, with the accuracy of a
psychologist Presents knowledge on how to improve motivation,
engagement, teamwork, and conflict handling Includes how to manage
people in emergency situations and avoid the loss of lives, like
the disaster of Costa Concordia and Estonia
Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are currently recognized as
the most suitable platform for the implementation of complex
digital systems targeting an increasing number of industrial
electronics applications. They cover a huge variety of application
areas, such as: aerospace, food industry, art, industrial
automation, automotive, biomedicine, process control, military,
logistics, power electronics, chemistry, sensor networks, robotics,
ultrasound, security, and artificial vision. This book first
presents the basic architectures of the devices to familiarize the
reader with the fundamentals of FPGAs before identifying and
discussing new resources that extend the ability of the devices to
solve problems in new application domains. Design methodologies are
discussed and application examples are included for some of these
domains, e.g., mechatronics, robotics, and power systems.
Princeton, New Jersey, 1951: As a CIA operative watches from the
shadows, two old men--Israeli prime minister David Ben-Gurion and
world-renowned scientist Albert Einstein--enter Einstein's home to
speak privately about nuclear weapons and the existence of God.
Present Day Cairo, Egypt: Over lunch in the Muslim quarter,
world-famous cryptanalyst Thomas Noronha is hired by a beautiful
dark-haired woman, Ariana Pakravan, to decipher a cryptogram hidden
in a recently discovered secret document under heavy security in
Tehran. A manuscript penned by Albert Einstein, it is titled Die
Gottesformel: The God Formula.
So begins a remarkable adventure that spans the world, as Thomas
and Ariana pursue the dangerous truth behind an incredible
document. The Einstein Enigma is a breathtaking fusion of science,
thriller, and religion, a mind-bending trip to the source of time,
the essence of the universe, and the meaning of life itself.
