The Altenberger Ecumenical Discussion Group has issued a statement
that the "heretic" Martin Luther is officially recognized as a
"witness of Jesus Christ" in the Catholic Church and that the Pope
is no longer an "Antichrist" in the Protestant Church, but is
honored as "brother in Christ". Contributions by well-known authors
justify this demand for the 500th anniversary year 2021. A
suggestion for a corresponding official declaration by both
churches as well as the draft for a reconciliation liturgy round
off the book. The second edition is supplemented with translations
of the Altenberg declaration into English, French and Spanish and
further reactions, including from the Lutheran World Federation and
from Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, the secretary of Pope Francis.
