Foreign Born - A Gathering of Armies (Hardcover): Joseph Boothe Jr Foreign Born - A Gathering of Armies (Hardcover)
Joseph Boothe Jr
R499 Discovery Miles 4 990 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In a sinister time long ago, the Earth was tainted by evil. Ruled by a witch seeking power, creatures and beasts rose out of the darkness and cursed the lands. Many years later, a dark force still haunts the land, forcing its residents to seek a Searcher who can quickly realize his true being and finally vanquish the evil. After Sosha, a young sorceress, asks Norrock, the Searcher, to lead her to the unforgiving Land of Ush, the two embark on a journey, never realizing that death is waiting to claim their souls. Norrock is already familiar with the smell of blood. Living with danger is his way of life. But as he and Sosha reach the unforgiving land, chaos abounds. As armies quickly assemble, Earth is shadowed by an awakening darkness and Sosha and Norrock must hurry to solve an ancient mystery. As they race against the dark queen's evil army, danger awaits the heroes at every turn. Unfortunately what began as a quest to solve an old prophecy has now become man's last hope for existence. Now it is up to Sosha and Norrock to find the Chosen One before the Earth is blanketed in darkness and destruction forever.

Africa for the African (Paperback, 2nd Revised edition): Joseph Booth Africa for the African (Paperback, 2nd Revised edition)
Joseph Booth; Edited by Laura Perry
R1,198 Discovery Miles 11 980 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

'I cannot afford to be a participator, by passiveness in such stupendous and widespread wrongs as I perceive are being abundantly inflicted upon the African race. Hence my appeal...to the British Queen and Government...that "Africa for the African" be made a reality as far as each has the power to bring it about.' Joseph Booth penned his appeal in 1897 in protest of the racist stereotpying of the Africans by the colonisers; and witnessing the unjust and inhumane exploitation of the native peoples, for the sole benefit of the Europeans. He drew his ideas from the social and political messages he inferred from the Gospel and his appeal was published only thirteen years after European leaders met in Berlin to divide up the African continent. The book, which was not welcomed by the colonial government in Malawi was first published in 1897 in the US and is now republished in Malawi. Laura Perry reproduced the text of Booth's second edition, compared it to the first edition and added explanatory footnotes.

This now seminal text was republished in its centenary year and has continual relevance to debates about race and development in Africa. It is edited to include explanations of local and contemporary political references, biblical references and the sources of the author's citations.
