Although (going by the subtitle), this book was written with "Bigger" Football Bettor's in mind; its teachings are useful for the Beginner/Novice; as well as the Avid football bettor. The "systems" discussed in this book are absolute light years ahead of their time, yet Mr Tuttle has been implementing them now for the past 6 football seasons And now, he's finally ready to go "public" with his applied theories and methodologies. The Tuttle Definitive is without a doubt Joseph J. Tuttle's best book yet. His horsemanship knowledge along with extreme betting savvy is conveyed page after page. It's my belief that this book can help the beginner/novice, but it seemed very obvious to me that the content was directed towards helping the avid/advanced horseplayer. The price of $29.95 truly isn't that outrageous, considering the amount of helpful content, and the total wordage (which is over 34,000). That makes this book seem like a steal, in my humble opinion

"Trainer" is a "novella" by definition. It's a little under 73 pages in length (6 total chapters), and a bit more than 11,000 total words. The Author's previous eight books pertain to the world of handicapping either sports or horses. And by simply typing his name in a Google or Amazon search (Joseph J Tuttle) you'll be able to look-up his other efforts. The story revolves around an "old-timer" horse trainer that goes by the character name "Pops." And, it delves into many different sub-plots, while still being very succinct in its nature. This book is very James Carroll-esque, in the way in which Mr. Tuttle incorporates a lot of actual events from the past; while also using many anecdotal situations from his own life; along with an unusual use of "embellishing" that helps to make this short story ("novella") quite the entertaining read. Additionally, Mr. Tuttle expresses an honest willingness to possibly collaborate with someone, in developing this story into a screenplay.

This book is a bit more "advanced," and tackles a lot of "Now" issues. Mr. Tuttle feels that one should purchase the original title: "The Tuttle Way" to better educate oneself in the subtle nuances that exist; in the world of betting the races. Due to many fan requests, he elaborates in great detail; about many strategic methods such as "hedging" and "fading." Lastly, Mr. Tuttle's horse racing novella (short story), "Trainer," now sells for only 7.95.

Recently revised from the Mid-February edition as of 11/01/08. I've made a very concerted effort to try and incorporate as much pertinent horsemanship knowledge into the chapters; as a way to better serve the novice; average, or below average horseplayer. I truly believe that after reading this book, you will immediately come away with a better sense of yourself (as a horseplayer), and will soon realize where exactly it is you want to be as a horseplayer. Or, you might have a wonderful epiphany and realize that maybe you too can become a more successful horseplayer. Maybe, a "professional" I must admit that if you're taking yourself at all seriously, you are also going to need my newest horse handicapping book... "The Tuttle Way" or "The Tuttle Way II." are a bit more advanced, and it can only help further your development as a Horseplayer.
