With exquisite artwork and evocative text, this original fable
explores the events of Jesus' life, and demonstrates
the role of the Virgin Mary as the benevolent agent of God's
people. Reduced to desolation by a king and prince who feel
they have been wronged, the residents of a
once-favored village must seek help from the queen, a native of
their devastated town. Religious subjects are presented
clearly in an allegorical style that proves entertaining,
and also serves to provide children with examples
of virtue and good behavior. Â
On the day of a royal wedding in a kingdom where everyone has grown careless in the practice of their Catholic faith, a poor widow helps reveal the true value of the Mass.

This title is suitable for ages 5 to 7 years. While other
children's religious titles focus on Saint Francis of Assisi as an
adult, few, if any, have concentrated on the early life of the
patron saint of animals and the environment. Stunning illustrations
punctuate this beautifully told story of Saint Francis as a boy as
he communes with nature and treats even the fiercest of animals - a
hungry wolf - with the same compassion he would show his
grandmother. In a fearless display of courage, tolerance, and
understanding, the young Francis makes peace with the wolf,
foreshadowing his teachings of harmony with the world around us and
man's duty to protect nature.
Here is a Christian allegorical story that treats of superlatives.
The richest man in the world, with the most varied and treasured
art collection in existence, begets the most wonderful son who,
like himself, loves and appreciates every creation they possess.
They relish entering the very worlds of their seascapes,
landscapes, cityscapes and even abstract forms, but, most of al,
they cherish their portraits, sharing in the very lives of their
subjects. Under the father’s solicitous eye, and with their
motherly estate keeper’s assistance, the exceptional son grows in
wisdom and stature, extending his wealth to whomever wants it. What
becomes of this son? And what later becomes of the treasures when
the father decides to offer his immensely vast collection at
auction? What superlative will be the most superlative of all? The
man who wins the auction for the Portrait of the Son is in for the
surprise of his life, and the would-be bidders witness a miracle of
conversion. This is the long-awaited third volume in a trilogy of
The Theological Virtues--faith, hope, and love--which began with
THE WEIGHT OF A MASS, A Tale of Faith, and TAKE IT TO THE QUEEN, A
Tale of Hope. Printed on the front and back underflaps are
theological insights into the text and art of this story for all
ages, for the true protagonists are the Persons of the Holy
Trinity, the seen and unseen world of Creation, and the Blessed
Virgin Mary.

When Maria finds the lost key to her neighbourhood's city
playground, she gathers all her friends together for a rollicking,
rolling good time of outdoor fun in this vividly illustrated,
artfully narrated, rhyming adventure. Just as the kids are about to
leave their newly found turf, the grown-ups crash the party and
join in on the fun -- hand-clapping, rope-jumping, and
high-swinging together in a colourful multicultural celebration.
Teaching children the fundamentals of storytelling, this picture
book provides an impeccable working model for storytelling using
straight rhymes, slant rhymes, and meter. Masterfully presenting
poetic tools in an accessible manner, this is a book whose story
sings and leaps off the page, causing kids to dance and cheer.
While the rest of her family sleeps, a young girl takes her little
brother--whom she knows will be frightened by the windstorm raging
around their seaside house--on an imaginary voyage with his
favorite animal, the humpback whale. The bed lifts and the waters
welcome them as they embark on an undersea odyssey to swim and
breach with the gentle creature who rocks them gently to sleep in a
rumbling, shimmering hammock made of waves.
A scrapbook provides many memories of good times enjoyed with Grandma.
Learn the fascinating story behind Mary's apparition to a humble
Aztec farmer in Mexico. Discover why this "Miracle of the Americas"
continues to touch so many people throughout the centuries.
On the day of a royal wedding in a kingdom where everyone has grown careless in the practice of their Catholic faith, a poor widow helps reveal the true value of the Mass.
Twirling and whirling, zigging and zagging, numerals dance across
the pages, enticing children to play with numbers and develop a
better understanding of numeric values in this fun and informative
comic approach. Three groups of numerals make mightily concerted
attempts to maintain the quirks of their distinct personalities in
the face of persistent peer pressure. The irascible 1, 2, 3, and 4,
though frail and wiry, would like to impose their ballroom dance
style on the robust 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. 5 and 6 cannot help
reverting to raucous jazz dancing, no matter how hard they
sportingly try to conform, and 7-10 don't see the point of being
anything but what they truly are--western line dancers. Scuffles,
rumbles, roundups, and coercions ensue until 1-4 have their way and
5-10 "go back to dancing like they want to, again!" The book's
rousing, impeccably metered rhymes provide the cadence of each
dance style, and the spare accompanying art lends a clean energy to
the numerals' challenge to accept each other as they are.
Josephine tries to tell her new American class about her life in Naples, Italy, but her teacher misunderstands what she is saying and thinks she grew up on a farm.
