This book provides a cross section of the theoretical and practical results achieved in gas-solid and liquid-solid adsorption. It contains monographs at a scientific level and some chapters include parts that can be used by Ph.D.-level students or by researchers working in industry. This volume presents 34 papers delivered at the 45th Linguistics Colloquium in Veszprem (Hungary) from 16th to 18th September, 2010. The authors deal with older and newer fields of work in linguistics as well as their innovative results. The international composition of the participants and the various methodological positions and aspects of the academic activities in linguistics offer the possibility of a broad field of research. Apart from Applied Linguistics, Intercultural Linguistics, Pragmatics, Lexicology, Semantics, Contact Linguistics and Grammaticography, the book also presents Foreign Language Didactics. Moreover, the book suggests topics for future research.
This book recognizes groundwater flow as a fundamental geologic agent, and presents a wide-ranging and illustrated overview of its history, principles, scientific consequences and practical utilization. The author, one of the founding fathers of modern hydrogeology, highlights key interrelationships between seemingly disparate processes and systems by tracing them to a common root cause - gravity-driven groundwater flow. Numerous examples demonstrate practical applications in a diverse range of subjects, including land-use planning, environment protection, wetland ecology, agriculture, forestry, geotechnical engineering, nuclear-waste disposal, mineral and petroleum exploration, and geothermal heat flow. The book contains numerous user-friendly features for a multidisciplinary readership, including full explanations of the relevant mathematics, emphasis on the physical meaning of the equations, and an extensive glossary. It is a key reference for researchers, consultants and advanced students of hydrogeology and reservoir engineering.

Meticulously prepared, this reference offers an overview of achieved in gas-solid (G/S), liquid-solid (L/S), and gas-liquid (G/L) adsorption research. It emphasizes the interpretation and application of various hypotheses, providing mathematically and thermodynamically accurate assessments. The book covers how to calculate mono- or multilayer adsorption, the structure of an adsorbed layer, the kinetics of each process, changes in free energy of surface, and exact isotherm equations when measuring a G/L, G/S, or L/S isotherm. Other topics include rare-gas adsorption, "supercritical region" isotherms, hydrophobic solid-water interfaces, and more.
