Semi-Finalist for the 2019 James Thurber Award * One of Vulture's Top-10 Comedy Books of 2018 * A "Must" pick by Entertainment Weekly * An A.V. Club Best Books selection * A "New and Noteworthy" selection by USA Today In celebration of The Simpsons thirtieth anniversary, the show's longest-serving writer and producer offers a humorous look at the writing and making of the legendary Fox series that has become one of the most revered artistic achievements in television history. Four-time Emmy winner Mike Reiss-who has worked on The Simpsons continuously since episode one in 1989-shares stories, scandals, and gossip about working with America's most iconic cartoon family ever. Reiss explains how the episodes are created, and provides an inside look at the show's writers, animators, actors and celebrity guests. He answers a range of questions from Simpsons fans and die-hards, and reminisces about the making of perennially favorite episodes. In his freewheeling, irreverent comic style, Reiss reflects on his lifetime inside The Simpsons-a personal highlights reel of his achievements, observations, and favorite stories. Springfield Confidential exposes why Matt Groening decided to make all of the characters yellow; dishes on what it's like to be crammed in a room full of funny writers sixty hours a week; and tells what Reiss learned after traveling to seventy-one countries where The Simpsons is watched (ironic note: there's no electricity in many of these places); and even reveals where Springfield is located! He features unique interviews with Judd Apatow, who also provided the foreword, and Conan O'Brien, as well as with Simpsons legends Al Jean, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, and more. Like Cary Elwes' As You Wish, Jennifer Keishin Armstrong's Seinfeldia, and Chris Smith's The Daily Show: An Oral History, Springfield Confidential is a funny, informational, and exclusive look at one of the most beloved programs in all of television land.
Before becoming one of the most successful filmmakers in Hollywood, Judd Apatow was the original comedy nerd. At fifteen, he took a job washing dishes in a local comedy club-just so he could watch endless stand-up for free. At sixteen, he was hosting a show for his local high school radio station in Syosset, Long Island-a show that consisted of Q&As with his comedy heroes, from Garry Shandling to Jerry Seinfeld. Thirty years later, Apatow is still that same comedy nerd-and he's still interviewing funny people about why they do what they do. Sick in the Head gathers Apatow's most memorable and revealing conversations into one hilarious, wide-ranging and incredibly candid collection. Here are the comedy legends who inspired and shaped him, the contemporaries he grew up with in Hollywood, and the brightest stars in comedy today, from Mel Brooks, Jerry Seinfeld and Steve Martin to Chris Rock, Seth Rogen and Lena Dunham. Sick in the Head is Apatow's gift to comedy nerds everywhere.
Comedy written by and starring Kristen Wiig as a hapless maid of honour struggling to keep things on an even keel in the lead up to her best friend's wedding. Annie (Wiig) is still reeling from the failure of her bakery business and the subsequent loss of her boyfriend and all her savings when her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), announces that she is engaged and wants Annie to take charge of her pre-wedding preparations. As if the responsibility of the role at such a tough time wasn't trying enough, Annie faces the small matter of dealing with Lillian's other bridesmaids - led by Helen (Rose Byrne) and Megan (Melissa McCarthy) - who have their own ideas on the kind of events befitting Lillian's final weeks as an unmarried woman. As a variety of mishaps, including mass food poisoning and a plane grounding, riddle Annie's attempts to help, she gradually finds herself usurped by Helen. But will her loyalty to Lillian pull her through in the end?
Harold Ramis directs this Judd Apatow-produced comedy set in a twisted version of the Biblical era. Jack Black and Michael Cera star as Zed and Oh, two lazy hunter-gatherers who set off on an epic journey through the ancient world after being banished from their primitive village.

Will Ferrell reprises his role as the self-obsessed news anchor in this sequel to the 2004 hit comedy 'Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy'. Accompanied by his former Channel 4 news team including Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and Champ Kind (David Koechner), Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) moves to New York City where he is introduced to the world of cable TV and 24-hour news coverage. But with his estranged wife Veronica (Christina Applegate) back in San Diego clocking up the ratings, Ron and the team will have to bring their A game to get back to the top...
Official book tie-in to the original comedy written by the
acclaimed writer/director Judd Apatow ("The 40-Year-Old Virgin,"
"Knocked Up"), starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and Leslie Mann.
Goofball comedy, that generated some controversy on its initial release, starring Adam Sandler as Zohan Dvir, an Israeli Special Forces soldier who fakes his own death so he can reinvent himself as a hairdresser in New York. He throws himself into his new identity with admirable gusto, romancing his clients by performing 'special services' in the back room - but is eventually recognised and must face losing his newfound life and career. Emmanuelle Chriqui and John Turturro co-star.
Double bill of goofball comedies directed by former Saturday Night Live writer Adam McKay. In 'Anchorman - The Legend of Ron Burgundy' (2004), Will Ferrell stars as Ron Burgundy, a top-rated 1970s San Diego anchorman who believes women have a place in the newsroom - so long as they stick to covering fashion shows or late-breaking cooking news, that is. So when Ron is told he'll be working with a bright young newswoman (Christina Applegate) who's beautiful, ambitious, and intelligent enough to be more than eye candy, it's not just a clash of two TV-people with really great hair: it's war. In 'Anchorman 2 - The Legend Continues' (2013), accompanied by his former Channel 4 news team including Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and Champ Kind (David Koechner), Ron Burgundy moves to New York City where he is introduced to the world of cable TV and 24-hour news coverage.
