This book presents a collection of contributions addressing recent advances and research in synergistic combinations of topics in the joint fields of intelligent computing and distributed computing. It focuses on the following specific topics: distributed data mining and machine learning, reasoning and decision-making in distributed environments, distributed evolutionary algorithms, trust and reputation models for distributed systems, scheduling and resource allocation in distributed systems, intelligent multi-agent systems, advanced agent-based and service-based architectures, and Smart Cloud and Internet of Things (IoT) environments. The book represents the combined peer-reviewed proceedings of the 11th International Symposium on Intelligent Distributed Computing (IDC 2017) and the 7th International Workshop on Applications of Software Agents (WASA 2017), both of which were held in Belgrade, Serbia from October 11 to 13, 2017.
Multi-Agent Programming is an essential reference for anyone interested in the most up-to-date developments in MAS programming. While previous research has focused on the development of formal and informal approaches to analyze and specify Multi-Agent Systems, this book focuses on the development of programming languages and tools which not only support MAS programming, but also implement key concepts of MAS in a unified framework. Part I describes approaches that rely on computational logic or process algebra - Jason, 3APL, IMPACT, and CLAIM/SyMPA. Part II presents languages and platforms that extend or are based on Java - JADE, Jadex and JACKTM. Part III provides two significant industry specific applications - The DEFACTO System for coordinating human-agent teams for disaster response, and the ARTIMIS rational dialogue agent technology. Multi-Agent Systems are a promising technology to develop the next generation open distributed complex software systems. The main focus of the research community has been on the development of concepts (concerning both mental and social attitudes), architectures, techniques, and general approaches to the analysis and specification of multi-agent systems. This contribution has been fragmented, without any clear way of "putting it all together," rendering it inaccessible to students and young researchers, non-experts, and practitioners. Successful multi-agent systems development is guaranteed only if we can bridge the gap from analysis and design to effective implementation. Multi-Agent Programming: Languages, Tools and Applications presents a number of mature and influential multi-agent programming languages, platforms, development tools and methodologies, and realistic applications, summarizing the state of the art in an accessible manner for professionals and computer science students at all levels.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Engineering Multi-Agent Systems, EMAS 2014, held in Paris, France, in May 2014. The 22 full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 41 submissions. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 8th International Workshop on Programming Multi-Agent Systems held in Toronto, Canada, in May 2010 in conjunction with AAMAS 2010, the 9th International Joint Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems. The 7 revised full papers presented together with 1 invited paper were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book. This book constitutes the 15th edition of the annual Multi-Agent Programming Contest, MAPC 2020. It gives an overview of the competition, describes the current scenario. Furthermore, it summarises this year's participants and their approaches and analyses some of the matches played and the contest as a whole. In the second part, each team contributed a paper describing their approach and experiences with creating a team of agents to participate in the contest.

Nonmonotonic reasoning in its broadest sense is reasoning to conclusions on the basis of incomplete information. Given more information, previously drawn inferences may be retracted. Commonsense reasoning has a nonmonotonic component; it has been argued that almost all commonsense inferences are of this sort. From the end of the 1980s to the present there has been an explosion in research in nonmonotonic reasoning. It is now possible to understand more clearly the properties of the major formalisms from a metatheoretical point of view, the relationships among the formalisms and their connection to independently developed proof methods. The goal of this monograph is to make this understanding more accessible.
