Die Diskurslinguistik hat sich mittlerweile als Teildisziplin der Sprachwissenschaft, die sich mit textubergreifenden Bedeutungsbezugen und historisch-kulturell verankertem Wissen befasst, und als auf Sprache spezialisierte Subdisziplin im multidisziplinaren Projekt "Diskursanalyse" etabliert. Wahrend die theoretische Reflexion des Diskursbegriffes weit vorangeschritten ist und zahlreiche Einzeluntersuchungen vorliegen, fehlt es noch immer an einer fundierten Methodik und Methodologie, an Verfahren, die wissenschaftlichen Kriterien wie Validitat und Reliabilitat standhalten und gleichzeitig der komplexen Diskursmorphologie gerecht werden. Diesem Desiderat tritt der Band entgegen. Die Beitrage stellen verschiedene Methoden vor, exemplifizieren sie und diskutieren ihre Applizierbarkeit auf so unterschiedliche diskurslinguistische Gegenstandsbereiche wie Episteme und Schemata, Aussagen und Argumentationen, Subjekt und Kollektiv, Multimodalitat und Interaktivitat, Ideologie und Macht sowie Korpus und Muster. This study is the first to examine in detail the public and academic discussions ( metalinguistic discourses ) from 1990 to 2001 on the subject of anglicisms in German. The central question is one of why attempts by linguists to participate in the public discourse and move this towards a more objective debate largely failed. On the basis of numerous statements in the media and from professional linguists, the study demonstrates the reasons for the divergent assessments of the phenomenon in academic and public circles."

What are the features of young people's written and spoken communication? How is youth language situated in the context of multilingualism and language contact? What influence does communication in the new media have on the language use? What are the characteristics of the public discourse about youth language? In the three categories � language use and linguistic skills, � language use and identity, and � youth languages as global and local phenomena these and other questions are discussed and new research perspectives are revealed. Moreover, the book is not only a documentation of the current state of affairs of German youth language research, but it also gives an insight into international research into the language of young people (in 15 European, American, and African countries altogether).
