This text provides an introduction to the science that governs the interaction of light and matter (in the gas phase). It provides readers with the basic knowledge to exploit the light-matter interaction to develop quantitative tools for gas analysis (i.e. optical diagnostics) and understand and interpret the results of spectroscopic measurements. The authors pair the basics of gas-phase spectroscopy with coverage of key optical diagnostic techniques utilized by practicing engineers and scientists to measure fundamental flow-field properties. The text is organized to cover three sub-topics of gas-phase spectroscopy: (1) spectral line positions, (2) spectral line strengths, and (3) spectral lineshapes by way of absorption, emission, and scattering interactions. The latter part of the book describes optical measurement techniques and equipment. Key subspecialties include laser induced fluorescence, tunable laser absorption spectroscopy, and wavelength modulation spectroscopy. Several recent studies have also touted the stress-relieving benefits of coloring books Just the act of coloring calms the nerves and focuses the brain. Tuleyome's "Nature and You" coloring book for adults combines art and nature, allowing folks to actively participate in their own stress relief while at the same time learning a little bit more about the natural subjects they're coloring. It is hoped that this process will help to forge a positive mental association between colorists and the great outdoors.

Tuleyome, a nonprofit conservation organization based in Woodland, California spearheaded the campaign to permanently protect the Berryessa Snow Mountain region which includes parts of Yolo, Lake, Napa, Mendocino and Solano Counties. Our efforts came to fruition when, on July 10, 2015, President Barack Obama signed the proclamation that designated the region as the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument. The monument is comprised of over 330,000 acres of federal public lands and includes the Cache Creek Wilderness, the Cedar Roughs Wilderness, and the Snow Mountain Wilderness. This species guide contains photographs and information on over 200 distinct species of plants and animals, but they still only comprise a tiny fraction of the flora and fauna found throughout the Berryessa Snow Mountain region. While the guide is not comprehensive, it provides an introduction to the diversity of life found in this rich area, including many common as well as threatened and endangered species.

This book is based on Tuleyome's popular "Tuleyome Tales" series of feature articles written mostly by our staff members and distributed to the local media. Our articles have been published in the Daily Democrat, Davis Enterprise, Lake County News, Lake County Record Bee, West Sacramento News Ledger, and the Winters Express among others; and they feature places, animals, insects, plants and landscapes in and around Yolo County, Lake County, Solano County, Mendocino County, Napa County and Sacramento County in the central valley region of northern California. Each page shows the reader a plant, animal or location within the local region, provides them with a little background information, and then poses a question which encourages young readers to do some research on their own.
