The unforgettable star of Just Harriet returns for another mystery
on Marble Island, from award-winning author Elana K. Arnold. There
are a few things you should know about Harriet Wermer: She always
tells the truth. She's loving spending her summer on Marble Island,
where she is an A+ mystery-solver. Okay, maybe she doesn't always
tell the truth. Actually...she has a tendency to lie quite a bit.
Which is why, when one of the guests at her grandmother's
bed-and-breakfast finds that their treasured pair of binoculars has
gone missing, no one believes Harriet when she said she had nothing
to do with it. But this is one time Harriet isn't lying--and she
knows that if she can find the binoculars and figure out who really
took them, she can prove it. With her cat, Matzo Ball, her
grandmother's basset hound, Moneypenny, and Harriet's new friend,
Clarence, helping her out, Harriet knows she can crack the case.
But when the culprit isn't who Harriet expects, it's up to her to
decide how important the truth really is.

A dark, engrossing, blood-drenched tale of the familiar threats to
female power-and one girl's journey to regain it. Five starred
reviews greeted this powerful story from Elana K. Arnold, author of
the Printz Honor winner Damsel. You are alone in the woods, seen
only by the unblinking yellow moon. Your hands are empty. You are
nearly naked. And the wolf is angry. Since her grandmother became
her caretaker when she was four years old, Bisou Martel has lived a
quiet life in a little house in Seattle. She's kept mostly to
herself. She's been good. But then comes the night of homecoming,
when she finds herself running for her life over roots and between
trees, a fury of claws and teeth behind her. A wolf attacks. Bisou
fights back. A new moon rises. And with it, questions. About the
blood in Bisou's past, and on her hands as she stumbles home. About
broken boys and vicious wolves. About girls lost in the
woods-frightened, but not alone.

Harriet sets out to solve a poisoning on Marble Island in the third
book in the acclaimed cozy mystery series from award-winning author
Elana K. Arnold. There are some things you should know about
Harriet Wermer: She used to lie a lot, but not anymore. Seriously,
she only tells the truth now. Even though she hadn't wanted to come
to Marble Island in the first place, now she doesn't want to leave.
It's the truth. With her mom and new baby brother home from the
hospital, it's almost time for Harriet to pack up and head home
from Marble Island and all the friends she's made. But Harriet
doesn't have time to think about that--not when she discovers that
Moneypenny, her Nanu's adorable basset hound, has been poisoned!
Harriet suspects the culprit is one of the guests staying at Nanu's
bed-and-breakfast, and she and her best friend, Clarence, are once
again on the case. But when someone else falls ill, Harriet's going
to have to sleuth harder, spy sneakier, and be willing to see that
sometimes the truth is more complicated than it seems.

From Michael L. Printz honoree & National Book Award finalist
Elana K. Arnold comes the harrowing story of a young girl's
struggle to survive the Holocaust in Romania. Frederieke Teitler
and her older sister, Astra, live in a house, in a city, in a world
divided. Their father ran out on them when Rieke was only six,
leaving their mother a wreck and their grandfather as their only
stable family. He’s done his best to provide for them and shield
them from antisemitism, but now, seven years later, being a Jew has
become increasingly dangerous, even in their beloved home of
Czernowitz, long considered a safe haven for Jewish people. And
when Astra falls in love and starts pulling away from her, Rieke
wonders if there’s anything in her life she can count on—and,
if so, if she has the power to hold on to it. Then—war breaks out
in Europe. First the Russians, then the Germans, invade
Czernowitz. Almost overnight, Rieke and Astra’s world
changes, and every day becomes a struggle: to keep their
grandfather’s business, to keep their home, to keep their lives.
Rieke has long known that she exists in a world defined by those
who have power and those who do not, and as those powers close in
around her, she must decide whether holding on to her life might
mean letting go of everything that has ever mattered to her—and
if that’s a choice she will even have the chance to make. Based
on the true experiences of her grandmother’s childhood in
Holocaust-era Romania, award-winning author Elana K. Arnold weaves
an unforgettable tale of love and loss in the darkest days of the
twentieth century—and one young woman’s will to survive them.

From acclaimed author Elana K. Arnold and with illustrations by
Charles Santoso, A Boy Called Bat is the first book in a funny,
heartfelt, and irresistible young middle grade series starring an
unforgettable young boy on the autism spectrum. For Bixby Alexander
Tam (nicknamed Bat), life tends to be full of surprises-some of
them good, some not so good. Today, though, is a good-surprise day.
Bat's mom, a veterinarian, has brought home a baby skunk, which she
needs to take care of until she can hand him over to a wild-animal
shelter. But the minute Bat meets the kit, he knows they belong
together. And he's got one month to show his mom that a baby skunk
might just make a pretty terrific pet.
Gastroenterologic endoscopy has made important progress in the past
decade. New techniques and ideas have given it new life. The end of
this evolution is not yet in sight. FuIly flexible fiberoptic
instruments have eliminated all blank areas from the map of the
gastrointestinal tract. Retro- grade visualization of the
pancreatic and biliary system has been achieved in conjunction with
radiologic methods. Operative endoscopy has de- veloped beyond the
removal of foreign bodies, to a stage where laparotomy can be
avoided in a number of situations. Hemostasis by laser coagulation
and crushing of concrements by ultrasound and electric energy have
reached the threshold of clinical applicability. With all these
spectacular develop- ments, however, it is important to maintain a
firm grasp of the fundamentals of endoscopy. This is the basis of
day-to-day success and includes knowl- edge of the proper
indications, the ability to manage complications, famil- iarity
with the technical properties of the instruments, their skillful
handling, and experience in organizing an endoscopy section.
Endoscopists, particu- larly members of the Erlangen group, have
undertaken the task of charting these fundamentals and of compiling
them into a working manual for those already practicing endoscopy
or intending to do so. They have been sup- ported in this effort by
colleagues from other parts of the Federal Republic of Germany and
from Italy.
The third book in the funny and joyful series Katherine Applegate
has called "tender and important," by National Book Award finalist
Elana K. Arnold. This chapter book is an excellent choice to share
during homeschooling, in particular for children ages 5 to 7 who
are ready to read independently. It's a fun way to keep your child
engaged and as a supplement for activity books for children. Bixby
Alexander Tam (nicknamed Bat) has been the caretaker for Thor, the
best skunk kit in the world...but the last day of third grade is
quickly approaching, and Thor is almost ready to be released into
the wild. The end of school also means that Bat has to say good-bye
to his favorite teacher, and he worries about the summer care of
Babycakes, their adorable class pet. Not only that, but his best
friend is leaving for a long vacation in Canada. Summer promises
good things, too, like working with his mom at the vet clinic and
hanging out with his sister, Janie. But Bat can't help but feel
that everything is coming to an end. National Book Award finalist
Elana K. Arnold returns with the third story starring an
unforgettable boy on the autism spectrum.

*A 2019 Michael L. Printz Award Honor Book*
A dark, twisted, unforgettable fairy tale from Elana K. Arnold, author of the National Book Award finalist What Girls Are Made Of
The rite has existed for as long as anyone can remember: When the king dies, his son the prince must venture out into the gray lands, slay a fierce dragon, and rescue a damsel to be his bride. This is the way things have always been.
When Ama wakes in the arms of Prince Emory, she knows none of this. She has no memory of what came before she was captured by the dragon or what horrors she faced in its lair. She knows only this handsome young man, the story he tells of her rescue, and her destiny of sitting on a throne beside him. It's all like a dream, like something from a fairy tale.
As Ama follows Emory to the kingdom of Harding, however, she discovers that not all is as it seems. There is more to the legends of the dragons and the damsels than anyone knows, and the greatest threats may not be behind her, but around her, now, and closing in.
From the award-winning author of A Boy Called Bat comes a new young
middle grade series in the tradition of Ramona and Clementine,
starring an unforgettable girl named Harriet. There are a few
things you should know about Harriet Wermer: She just finished
third grade. She has a perfect cat named Matzo Ball. She doesn't
always tell the truth. She is very happy to be spending summer
vacation away from home and her mom and dad and all the wonderful
things she had been planning all year. Okay, maybe that last one
isn't entirely the truth. Of course, there's nothing Harriet
doesn't like about Marble Island, the small island off the coast of
California where her nanu runs a cozy little bed and breakfast. And
nobody doesn't love Moneypenny, Nanu's old basset hound. But
Harriet doesn't like the fact that Dad made this decision without
even asking her. When Harriet arrives on Marble Island, however,
she discovers that it's full of surprises, and even a mystery. One
that seems to involve her Dad, back when he was a young boy living
on Marble Island. One that Harriet is absolutely going to solve.
And that's the truth.
Starla Jean and her pet chicken, Opal Egg, return in this
side-splitting third chapter book, just in time to solve a puzzling
mystery that takes them on a chase through the neighborhood! Have
you ever walked a chicken on a leash? Well, chicken expert Starla
Jean will let you know first hand, it's not easy. But that doesn't
stop Starla from taking her pet chicken, Opal Egg, and her baby
sister, Willa, out on a stroll through the neighborhood. On their
walk, they stumble upon a mysterious bead. And then another! Before
they know it, there's a conundrum on their hands, and it's up to
Starla and her friends to figure out just who exactly is losing
these beads! Printz Honor winner and National Book Award Finalist
Elana K. Arnold is back once more with this irresistible story of a
girl, her chicken, and an unfolding mystery, superbly illustrated
by A. N. Kang.

Once, when we all had to stay home for the whole long springtime,
When schools were closed And work was closed And everything fun was
canceled, Dad said, "Let's take a walk." On this walk, the family
discovers two abandoned duck eggs and takes them home to wait for
them to hatch. They read and learn and laugh and wait together
until one day... Pip and Zip are born!
"In this luminous story full of mystery and magic, Elana K. Arnold
weaves a shimmering tapestry about the lovely and surprising ways
we're connected to each other. Heart-healing, hopeful, and
wonderfully inventive, this beautiful novel by a master storyteller
is not to be missed." -Katherine Applegate, Newbery Medal-winning
author of The One and Only Ivan Alder has always lived in his cozy
little house in Southern California. And for as long as he can
remember, the old, reliable, comforting walnut tree has stood
between his house and the one next door. That is, until a new
family-with a particularly annoying girl his age-moves into the
neighboring house and, without warning, cuts it down. Oak doesn't
understand why her family had to move to Southern California. She
has to attend a new school, find new friends, and live in a new
house that isn't even ready-her mother had to cut down a tree on
their property line in order to make room for a second floor. And
now a strange boy next door won't stop staring at her, like she did
something wrong moving here in the first place. As Oak and Alder
start school together, they can't imagine ever becoming friends.
But the two of them soon discover a series of connections between
them-mysterious, possibly even magical puzzles they can't put
together. At least not without each other's help. Award-winning
author Elana K. Arnold returns with an unforgettable story of the
strange, wondrous threads that run between all of us, whether we
know they're there or not.
