From The Other Boleyn Girl to Fingersmith, this collection explores
the popularity of female-centred historical novels in recent years.
Examining the female figure in these contemporary fictions, it
looks at the ways in which authors intervene in the historical
process to present these women, real and imagined. It asks how
these representations are influenced by contemporary gender
politics and whether they can be seen as part of a wider feminist
project to recover women's history. Featuring chapters by newer
scholars alongside established figures in the field such as Diana
Wallace, as well as an interview with authors Susan Sellers and
Alice Thompson, it engages with debates around history, literary
value and the postmodern to illustrate the importance of these
female figures.
By modern analytic mechanics we mean the classical mechanics of
today, that is, the mechanics that has proven particularly useful
in understanding the universe as we experience it from the solar
system, to particle accelerators, to rocket motion. The
mathematical and numerical techniques that are part of this
mechanics that we present are those that we have found to be
particularly productive in our work in the subject. The balance of
topics in this book is somewhat different from previous texts. We
emphasize the use of phase space to describe the dynamics of a
system and to have a qualitative understanding of nonlinear
systems. We incorporate exercises that are to be done using a
computer to solve linear and nonlinear problems and to have a
graphical representation of the results. While analytic solutions
of physics problems are to be prefer. red, it is not always
possible to find them for all problems. When that happens,
techniques other than analysis must be brought to bear on the
problem. In many cases numerical treatments are useful in
generating solutions, and with these solutions often come new
insights. These insights can sometimes be used for making further
analytic progress, and often the process is iterative. Thus the
ability to use a computer to solve problems is one of the tools of
the modern physicist. Just as analytic problem-solving enhances the
student's understanding of physics, so will using the computer
enhance his or her appreciation of the subject.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is a scientific
organization created in 1879, and is part of the U.S. government.
Their scientists explore our environment and ecosystems, to
determine the natural dangers we are facing. The agency has over
10,000 employees that collect, monitor, and analyze data so that
they have a better understanding of our problems. The USGS is
dedicated to provide reliable, investigated information to enhance
and protect our quality of life. This is one of their reports.
There is no doctrine which distinguishes Lutheranism from the vast
world of Protestantism more than the teaching of the Lord's Supper.
The contention that Christ's body and blood are in, with, and under
the Eucharistic elements in central to Lutheran identity. In this
work, Henry Immanuel Schmidt defends the historic Lutheran teaching
on this subject against some who claimed the name Lutheran, but
adopted a Reformed view of the Supper. He deals with topics such
as: The words of institution, the text of 1 Corinthians 11, the
communication of attributes from Christ's divinity to his humanity,
and the nature of figurative language in Scripture. This work is
essential reading for anyone interested in learning about, or
defending the Lutheran view of Holy Communion.
It has been said that no man is an island. We are all bound
together by shared beliefs and shared experiences. As we go through
life we find that we are not as unique as we once thought. We have
much in common with the person who lives down the street, as well
as the ones who live across the globe. Lives are not lived in
vacuums but rather in interactive communities. This world of
?binding? is what gives life its richness. The stories in this book
will reach inside the reader's heart and soul to strike a common
chord. In lucid, memorable prose, Cooper offers remembrances,
reflections, and experiences that can be shared by readers of all
ages.
Executives, managers, and professionals all across America are praising Executive EQ and are putting the precepts of this book into action for raising emotional intelligence in their leadership and at all levels of their organizations.
Memory's Mist is a collection of personal essays about life in the
US South as seen through the eyes of author Jackie K. Cooper. The
stories contained hold up a mirror upon which the shared traits and
experiences of life can be seen. Some of the experiences shared are
humorous, some are sad, some are dramatic, and some are life
affirming. Through them all runs a ribbon of hope and optimism. As
Cooper reflects back on his past, the vision has been somewhat
dimmed by the mist of memory but-with the help of family and
friends-he is able to part the mist and have a clear view of the
past which in many ways signals the future. As with his other books
Cooper finds life full of surprises and simple joys amid the
tumultuous and uncertain lives we all live.
This title features new stories from the ""Bookbinder"". Jackie K.
Cooper, the beloved author of ""Journey of a Gentle Southern Man"",
""Chances and Choices"", ""Halfway Home"", and ""The Bookbinder""
is back with a new collection of stories in ""The Sunrise
Remembers"". Every morning when the sun rises it brings back
memories of your life and loans them to you for another day. At
least this is what Cooper believes and uses as the inspiration for
this new book of stories. As each new day dawns, the sunrise
provides us with memories of our past and in that way helps to
shape our present and our future. After all, memories are golden
drops of dew on the lawn of our lives. They are there for us to
discover and to savor. Join Cooper as he remembers a life well
lived and a present that is inspiring. From movies to family to the
death of a close friend, join Cooper on another homespun and
genuine revelry through life's turns. With an entertaining wit and
easygoing style, he once again reminds us of life's essentials and
what it means to be part of a world that still has the power to
leave us speechless. As you open these pages, the sunrise is
breaking through the clouds and the memories wait.
