FBI agent Tasha Jones is absolutely driven. Not only is her career on the fast-tracked, but she has assembled and is leading an elite group of agents, including the strikingly handsome Abe Williams, who acts as her bodyguard. As the best of the best, Tasha's team is the go-to for powerful government agencies. When the son of a prominent judge is kidnapped, Tasha follows her instincts and plans a dangerous rescue. As the team executes its plan with precision, its members realize the boy is in the hands of a serial killer, Houston Sealy, a maniac they've been tracking for months. Never one to overlook details, Tasha ultimately foils Sealy's plan to take the young boy's life. It appears his rampage is over. As they celebrate having Sealy once again behind bars, Tasha and Abe find themselves fighting their mutual and growing attraction. The team's heroics, however, have only fanned the flames of Sealy's fervor for revenge, and the team's victory is cut short when Sealy escapes from incarceration. Tasha must now struggle to maintain control of both the case and her growing attraction to her bodyguard as Sealy plots to make her pay.
With a thirteen major works over a fifty-year career, one that includes a 2007 Pulitzer Prize, selection for Oprah's Book Club, and Oscar-winning film adaptations of his novels, Cormac McCarthy is one of America's best-selling novelists of the South and Southwest. "Cormac McCarthy "offers a shrewd chapter-by-chapter reading, exploring concepts such as the Southern Gothic novel, the Southwest border, faith and suicide, and father-son relationships. Respected scholar Kenneth Lincoln shows how McCarthy's canticles of praise, grief, and warning mix classic, biblical, and ballad genres and cross the lyrical with the narrative. Lincoln makes a compelling case that McCarthy is our greatest millennial novelist in a time of heroic challenge and high global stakes.
A sequel to Latin American Foreign Policies: Global and Regional Dimensions (Westview, 1981), this collection of original essays presents a comprehensive view of the principal foreign policy issues of the nations of Latin America and lays the foundation for understanding the challenges facing those nations in the 1980s. The book begins with an introduction to the major themes of conflict and cooperation in Latin American foreign policies, an overview of U.S.-Latin American relations, and an assessment of contemporary research in the field. The authors then analyze the economic challenges, regional conflicts, and security concerns of the nations of South and Central America, with case studies of the foreign policies of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Cuba. A concluding section suggests future directions for research on Latin American foreign policies in the 1980s and offers a theoretical framework for the analysis of foreign policy behavior in the region.
